One thing we need to mention every time there is a new report is that these are times of COVID-19 pandemic and people are working from home. This means that even major tech companies such as Google and Apple are working from home.

Yet, there are new announcements from them regarding updates and features being worked upon. Coming back to the topic, we have a new report from The Information regarding a new feature/platform being developed by the YouTube team.

According to the report, YouTube is working on its own version of TikTok platform called Shorts. This platform will be very similar to TikTok where people will be able to post short-form videos same as we can on TikTok.

Also, YouTube will have the advantage of letting its users use the songs which it already has a license for. On the other hand, TikTok has the ability to provide a limited variety of music to its users which the creators can use on their videos.

It is also worth noting that YouTube has already copied the Instagram Stories feature on its platform which is also named as YouTube Stories. With this feature, YouTube creators can post images or videos for a 24-hour duration after which the posts disappear automatically. Also, the subscribers of the creators can see the posts at the top of their YouTube feed.

Also, it makes quite a lot of sense that YouTube is working on such a feature because of the fact that the platform currently has about 2 billion monthly active users and it will be able to convert a lot of users from the main platform to this new feature.

We can also see a lot of people who are not making long-form videos on YouTube enticed to make YouTube Shorts since they are short-form videos and can be made easily.
