The Chinese start-up has successfully completed One year three months in the smartphone market and back with OnePlus 2 device. Most of the specifications including the screen size, resolution, storage, and camera, we don’t see much difference between the One and 2. The company has followed its traditional invite system to buy the device. Today, we will do the detailed review of the device with respect to the build quality, display, performance and the battery life.
OnePlus 2 Review: Build Quality & Design
The design is top notch, it has a Sandstone back cover. The company also reduced the weight of the device using the aluminum alloy in the body. The OnePlus 2 is a good mix of things from OnePlus One. Apart from the name, there are quite a few differences between the Two and the One. On the front side, it has a 5.5-inch display supporting 1920×1080 resolution display with 15000:1 contrast ratio. The device has 151.8 x 74.9 x 9.9mm dimensions, it is slightly thick than OnePlus One which is 8.9mm thin.
The new feature present in the part of the design is “Slider”. The slider is useful to toggle the notification profiles None, Priority and All. Using the physical button, you can turn off notifications easily. The company has also added a metal rim which gives a premium look and feel to the device.
First time in a smartphone the OnePlus Two is launched with USB type-C at the bottom of the device. The USB type-C slot looks like normal and it is compatible with every device with standard USB ports. The power and volume keys are on the right side, the USB type-C charging slot at the bottom and the 3.5mm audio jack at the top. What makes OnePlus Two special is its StyleSwap covers, they comes in Bamboo, Black Apricot, Rosewood and Kevlar models. Overall, the build quality looks very good on the device and gives a solid feel.
OnePlus 2 Review: Display
The device comes with 5.5-inch FHD display (1920×1080) 401 ppi and it is the same what we saw on OnePlus One. The beautiful screen is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, viewing angles are also very good with no change in colors when you tilt the display. The colors look decent, and the sharpness levels are good.
OnePlus 2 Review: Hardware
The top end variant of OnePlus 2 features a 4GB RAM and is powered by Quad-core 2 GHz Cortex-A57. There is also 3GB RAM model available and features a Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53. For graphics, the company packed an Adreno 430 GPU. The phone comes with 16/64GB storage and there’s no microSD card slot.

The OnePlus 2 has one additional and security oriented feature called fingerprint sensor. Like in iPhone 5S/6 and 6 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S6 and Ulefone Be Touch 2 the fingerprint sensor works on the home button. To unlock the device simply place the thumb rest is taken care by the device. In our testing, it takes less than one second time to unlock the device using fingerprint sensor.
OnePlus 2 Review: Performance
The questions around the OnePlus 2 is the performance and is priced at $389. So is the phone worth the money? Let’s find out in this performance review. The device is powered by Quad-core 2 GHz Cortex-A57 processor, the processor is powerful enough to handle multiple apps once. In our testing, we opened multiple apps at once, apps like Asphalt 8, PvZ 2, and social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Pocket, Instagram and other apps like photo editing tools. The device works fine and, swapping apps takes one second time. The best part is the processor is capable of streaming 4K videos easily.
Coming to Camera performance, the device is packed with 13MP rear camera, which has features like 1.35 sensor size and fast laser focus and f/ 2.0 aperture. The device is capable of recording videos at 4K and traditional FHD. The default camera app comes with Hydrogen or Oxygen OS is fast and responsive. The app includes HDR, Flash and easily focus on the object you want to capture.
The call quality on the phone was decent and we didn’t notice any issues with calls. The device features a 3300mAh non-removable battery and this is decent capacity for a 5.5-inch device in the high-end. The phone does give good battery life in normal usage which includes calls, browsing, email, casual gaming and social networking apps.
Verdict
Just like One, OnePlus 2 has maintained solid build quality, features, and hype. They managed to make the phone all-rounder, it comes with a price tag which is lower than the other competitors with similar specifications. All things considered, it is a worthy buy smartphone that have a feature-packed performance at an affordable price point.
