Design and Build Quality
The design looks like Apple iPad mini, but it is only in the look. The Tablet is made up of Magnesium Alloy in the outer covers with the shockproof and lightweight material. The Rear cover cannot be opened. The battery is sealed inside the rear and cannot be removed.
The left side has the micro SD card tray while the right side has the Volume buttons and Power button. The top side has the 3.5 mm Headphone jack and the bottom has the USB port. Rear Camera is located in the top left corner. Three capacitive buttons located below the screen.
The tablet looks clean and neat in the minimal design. While holding the tablet in hands, it is slippery because of no grip in the rear panel and in the frame. So, it is better to use a back cover with grip to avoid any accidental slip downs. Other than this, the design is very good with minimalism. For a 7.9mm inch screen, minimal design is the right choice.
Display
Xiaomi Mi Pad has a Retina IPS display with a 7.9-inch screen. The screen resolution is a top notch with 2048 x 1536 of QXGA quality. The first point is the wide 7.9-inch screen, which gives us a mini laptop feel. Secondly, the highly configured display features. The resolution is more than most of the Android tablets and comparable to the iPad Mini. Mi Pad has the Retina display and the screen density of 324 ppi.
The screen displays all pictures and videos in a top class clarity and sharpness. With the quality, protection joins the hands with the help of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 to secure the screen from accidental drops.
Hardware and OS Performance
All the hardware in Mi Pad is configured to make it a hardcore performer without any struggling in the use. The processor is Nvidia Tegra K1 Chipset with Quad Core 2.2 GHz Cortex A-15 CPU. This is one of the best processors to handle multi-tasking and another hardcore usage of CPU. To attain maximum gaming experience, it added ULP Geforce Kepler with 192 cores. Android 4.4 with the skin of MiUi 6, is the OS loaded with the Mi Pad on delivery. But, you can upgrade it to Android 5.1 OS based MiUi 7 later. MiUi 7 added more functions and settings options than the stock Android 5.1.
Overall the performance is great and awesome. It never limits the using of Android apps, games and user interface at its maximum.
Camera
Mi Pad has a good set of cameras on the front and back. Rear has a 8 MP camera and the front has a 5 MP camera. Both the cameras producing good quality pictures. No flashlight is added with the cameras. So, while in darkness we have to rely on the natural light with the camera app settings to get a good picture. Video can be taken at 1080 pixel FHD quality with the camera.
Connectivity
One of the biggest disappointment in Mi Pad is, You cannot use it for calling or connect with 3G or 4G internet. SIM card slot is not available. So, the only way to connect with The internet is WiFi. WiFi has features of Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/as, dual-band, WiFi Direct and WiFi hotspot. Bluetooth 4.0 is available to connect with other Bluetooth enabled devices.
Battery
The battery has a good capacity of 6700 mAh to fuel the Mi Pad Tablet PC. With continuous usage of internet, playing videos and games, the battery lasted up to 12 hours. This is a good performance for a Tablet PC with high-level processors. Good News is this battery is compatible with both 5V – 2A and 9V – 1.2 A chargers. It enables us to use quick charge this big battery which usually may take more time to complete 100% of charging. When compared with other Tablets, 6700 mAh battery is above average than others.

In the Tablet category, we found only very fewer entrants in the recent times. We cannot consider the 5.5-inch gadgets as tablet, even though it is tablet as per the Industry norms. In that case, we have only very fewer Tablets and very less big brand names. Other than Apple, there is no market leader yet in the Tablet category. Xiaomi tried their best to fill that gap with their Mi Pad. Fortunately, the Mi Pad is still selling in good number in the market.
With 7.9 inches wide screen and good display, it comes with 2.2 GHz processor and 192 cores graphical processor. I think no tablet is giving this combination for just $217.98 price tag. Expandable memory also has an option for massive 128 GB. Gaming performance is great. But, overall only one con we noticed, that is the non-availability of phone features such as calling and use of GSM, 3G or 4G internet connections. But, those who want a complete tablet with low price tag, this is the best one that gives more value for your money.
