Advantages and Disadvantages of Computer

Computers started to be a part of our every day around thirty years ago, and we are still using them now, which means that they play an important role in our lives. Today, it’s simply very hard to find a house without a minimum one computer in it, because of numerous reasons. Computers are very useful and versatile machines in right hands, and we’ll talk about that in just a second. Thanks to technology, computers can now take shape of laptop (portable PC), tablet, smartphone and basically everything that has a CPU and operating system can be called a computer.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Computer

However, we are going to talk about a ‘real’ computer, like desktop PC, its advantages, and disadvantages. So, let’s begin.

Advantages of Computer

  1. A computer is a huge well of information: Our computers have an ability to become professional learning and studying machines. With the internet, you can access to any website you want from your PC, save various documents and presentation and much more, in order to get the info about what interests you. Aside from that, you can access various news websites and get informed about weather, your country, sports and whatever you wish.
  1. Computers are great for keeping the important stuff: Computers are equipped with HDDs which can store an insane amount of files, depending on its size. Today, a typical computer comes with 1 TB of space, which is enough to collect all of your favorite movies, all of your favorite songs, all of your games and pictures that you love. It’s that much and it’s accessible by today’s standards. Our computers are also capable of working with files of every kind, so you can store anything you want on your PC.
  1. Fun & Games: Having a computer isn’t always fun and games, but you can have a hell of a fun on your PC by playing games. Computers are main machines for playing games, along with consoles, but those consoles also have the PC components, so we can count them as computers. You can also watch movies and play music on your PC. Nevertheless, your desktop PC can run most games today, and if you pair that with the internet, you can play games with your friends whenever you want. Well… there is one disadvantage we’ll talk about later.
  1. A computer is relatively cheap: I remember when I first bought my PC and it was quite expensive, but offered sub-par performance. Well, in the modern time, PCs are much, much more affordable so you can get one for a couple of hundred of dollars and it’ll probably be good for more than few years. Of course, if you need a computer for a light gaming and other stuff, you can buy a cheaper PC and you’re good. Gaming PCs tend to be more expensive and it’s up to you to decide what type of PC do you need.
  1. Computers are great for business: In many areas of industry, computers play a big role. You can make a money if you have a computer, did you know that? Well, if you have a will to work and you have a knowledge, you can work as a freelancer, code, design and write stuff for money from the comfort of your home, which is awesome!

Disadvantages of Computer

  1. Computers cause addiction: As with devices like smartphones, PC can also cause an addiction, but much less than smartphones. Still, this is a present issue which we mentioned earlier, especially with those who like to play games. Games are a great source of fun but they really make the time pass faster and we can forget about our work or any other goal. This way, PC can make you an addict, and this mostly applies to kids, so if you are a parent, make sure that your child doesn’t overuse his computer.
  1. Computers are bad for eyes: Starring at computer’s monitor can be really bad for your eyes as the screen is a lot bigger than the phone’s screen, and you’re probably looking at it from a 1-2m distance. Also, for those who work on a computer for several hours a day, their eyes can get really damaged over time. The best solution is to lower your brightness and increase the distance from the monitor.
  1. Takes a lot of space: If you decide to buy a desktop PC, you’ll probably need a whole table just for a case, and then monitor, and the speakers, and then WiFi router and so on, if you add some accessories to it. On top of that, you’ll probably need to spend additional money on a new desk, specifically made for PC, which can cost relatively expensive. However, if you have a feeling for decoration and design, you can make it look pretty well on the table.
  1. Data security is at risk: While browsing the internet, you can expose your computer to certain viruses that can not only damage your PC but also steal your passwords or even do BitCoin mining with your GPU, thus stressing it to maximum levels. Malware can also steal your passwords and emails, so you need to be careful about that. An anti-virus could help, but you can also give less info about yourself on the internet; be aware of that!

To conclude, computers are great machines and they are doing us any favours by making our lives easier. They work simple, and if you are a newbie to computers you can still learn how to use them in a matter of hours. Also, they can provide the users with lots of fun, which is great if you are bored, or you just want to watch a movie with your friends and family. Generally, computers are most hated by old persons because of some of the disadvantages, and I truly understand them, as PCs aren’t that old innovation. However, like it or not, computers are here to stay, and the world wouldn’t even function like this without computers. If there are powerful machines like computers, it’s normal that we get the most out of them.
