Nokia 7 Plus Review

Nokia 7 Plus Review

Nokia did a spectacular job with the comeback with the Nokia 3310, Nokia 5, Nokia 3 and the Nokia 6. All these handsets made a good amount of buzz in the market. Nokia 7 Plus is a flagship-grade device from Nokia priced at an attractive price. Let’s see if HMD Global is able to input the Nokia DNA in the Nokia 7 Plus which includes tough build, ability to perform, long last, and desire to sell like a hot cake in the review ahead.

Design & Build

The new phone comes with the all-new 18:9 ratio display which is the new trend in the market. The phone is constructed with 6000 series aluminum grade unibody which makes the device the best in terms of build quality and toughness. The back of the display is also aluminum and not glass, this makes it durable and easy to hold.

Talking about the placements we have the 18:9 ratio display on the front without any notch. On the back, we have the dual camera placed at the center on the top just side to the camera unit we have the gigantic flash and at sight bottom, to the camera, we have a fingerprint scanner. On the right side, we have the power and volume button while on the bottom we have the Type – C Port, speaker grill and the microphone hole.

One of the best things about the design of the Nokia 7 Plus is the Nokia logo on the top right corner of the display which gives the phone an upmarket feel. As far as the feel of the phone is considered it is one of the best phones in hand and feels really premium. The back despite being metal feels really soft due to the ceramic coating is done by Nokia.

Display

On the front, we get a 6 – inch IPS LCD Panel which maxes outs its resolution at Full HD+. For protection, the phone utilizes the Gorilla Glass 3. The panel is a really bright and vibrant one which is capable of maxing out the brightness to overcome harsh sunlight. The colors on the screen are really vibrant and make the phone look really good. Watching media on this panel is going to be the really happening job.

Performance

The Nokia 7 Plus is equipped with the Snapdragon 660 SoC which is not a top of the line chipset from Qualcomm. This chip is having a lot of performance packed inside it and can easily outperform the Snapdragon 800 Chipset which was the top of the line SoC last to last year. The phone can easily handle daily applications and provides a smooth experience without breaking the jar. As per the benchmarks, the phone is capable of getting a score of 137,573 in AnTuTu while on GeekBench we were able to score 1,590 and 5,780 respectively in the single core and multicore scores.

Daily performance of the Nokia 7 Plus is a breeze with the 6GB RAM option. Although you might find a bit of lag in the reloading of applications it is only 1 in 100 times. The phone performs really well with most of the applications, especially in gaming, the phone is able to play most of the games without any issue. Although at times there are lags and stuttering which is due to bottlenecking of the GPU. The issue is only in action intensive games and only on the highest settings. This can easily be solved with a software update, so do keep watching out for the next update with the fix. (We will update our review once the fix is out)

Camera

Nokia was the best when it used to come in the camera department. With this smartphone, Nokia did their best to regain the place. The camera application on the phone has a couple of modifications and have options such as HDR, beautification, Bothie feature and many other modes and features embedded inside the application itself. On the back, we have a dual setup with a 12 MP sensor for a normal picture, while another sensor with same resolution with 2X zoom.

On the phone, we even have a Pro mode which lets us play with the settings of the phone so that we can easily make out with the best of the pictures we can get in a particular environment. Even the front camera of the phone is good and is able to take spectacular pictures.

Both the cameras front and the rear can take some really good images with the help of the sensors and optics. Nokia has again started using Carl Zeiss optics which were the best in class when we used to have Nokia phones. Most of the phones from Nokia featured the same and they are back with the new optics for the new phones.

Battery

Nokia 7 Plus rocks a 3800 mAh battery which is most likely to entertain you the whole day without any issue. The battery of the device comes to be serving you the whole day with ease in normal usage. Although if you play the games like a maniac it won’t be lasting more than 3 to 4 hours on a constant run which is the case with almost all the phones especially in gaming. Although if you use the device as a daily driver like calling, messages, social media, a bit of gaming then it can make up to 1 & half day of usage which is a really great battery life considering the price point.

Verdict

The phone is a great package especially in terms of performance, camera, battery, and software UI. Usually, the phone is kind of hit and miss, and this phone is a real hit with all the pieces of puzzles placed in the right corners. The phone happens to be a great alternative to the OnePlus 6 and the Asus ZenFone 5z if you haven’t read our reviews do look at the same.
