Moto E5 Plus Review

Motorola launched two new devices in the Moto E series. The series was introduced as a budget-centric device, but now the phones are priced at 10,000 INR and above, which is generally the Moto G category. Motorola line up is quite messed up, and as per the current pricing, the Moto E5 Plus must give the value equivalent to a Moto G device. Today we are reviewing the Moto E5 Plus, and we will be looking forward if Moto E5 Plus delivers the same value to the people.

Design & Build

Coming to the design of the phone, the phone seems premium at the first look. On the back, we can make out the glass build, which is a Plastic one, though it looks like glass back. Overall the phone is mostly made of plastic which makes the phone feels cheap in hand. The phone does have a light heft into the phone due to the battery but doesn’t feel heavy or flimsy in hand. The phone does feel solid and premium which is the excellent thing despite having a poor choice of material, especially in the most competitive segment.

The phone at the back has a single camera which also incorporates a flash and Laser Focusing system. With the Motorola Dimple integrated the phone have the fingerprint scanner, which is the best place to put the scanner at least for Motorola. On the front, we get the all new tall display with the same 18:9 ratio display. Above the display, we get the earpiece, front camera, and a flashlight. On the bottom, we get the Moto branding.

Display

The Moto E5+ packs a 6.0 – inch display with HD+ resolution. The display is an IPS LCD Unit which makes it easy for Motorola to deliver the product on a budget. Although the screen is an LCD panel, we get the feature such as Moto Display and Moto Actions which is quite a while we see with the Moto devices.

The display of the phone is crisp and offers excellent viewing angles especially indoors although using the device in bright sunlight is going to be an issue due to the reflective display. Colors and saturation on display are average, and a panel is an excellent unit for viewing media. The panel is of good quality as one’s eyes are not going to be strained even after continually using the phone. Which makes it to a right side of Motorola.

Performance

Moto E5+ packs the new offering from Qualcomm the Snapdragon 430. While the other device the Moto E5 which was launched alongside the E5+ packs the Snapdragon 425 which is the older of the two. Both the processors are 1.4GHz Octa Core unit running on different core types. Moto E5+ is bundled with 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal Storage.

The phone runs on Android 8.0 Oreo which further helps the device to perform better with respect to other devices. Moto E5+ is capable of being used as a daily driver where you will be using more than 3 to 4 applications simultaneously. This does mean the phone is easily capable of multi-tasking and if you are looking for a phone which can easily handle a load of more than two social media apps, and regular phones and more than the E5+ is the best phone to get hands on.

Moto E5+ will do a decent job especially in gaming keeping the Snapdragon 430 on its maximum clock while playing games on medium graphics. This does also mean that we will not be able to play games with Moto E5+ on higher graphics settings. Regular usage of the phone will deliver no issue.

Camera

On the camera department, the Moto E5 Plus gets a 12 MP camera sensor which gets assistant of laser autofocusing system, PDAF, and LED Flash. On the front, we get a 5 MP Selfie camera which also gets a LED light for better picture quality. User Interface, especially on the camera application, is quite easy, in fact, Motorola has the easiest interface in a tire – 1 companies.

The phone in the price range does lack the dual camera setup which most of the devices are on offer. Keeping the fact aside the phone is capable of taking some great pictures, especially outdoors. In artificial lighting, the phone struggles to produce good pictures, and they tend to appear grainy. Overall the images have a right to a natural color tone, and a good amount of saturation and the right amount of contrast levels.

The front camera of the device is capable of capturing selfies good enough only in bright sunlight when it comes to night or artificial lighting; the phone starts to show its limits in bold. Colors even on the front unit are same as what we saw on the rear camera, one thing to note is that the front camera of the Moto E5+ produces a bit softer image as compared to that of its rear camera unit.

Battery

The phone comes with a 5000 mAH battery which gives the phone a significant benefit, especially over most of its rival in the price range. Battery along with close to Stock UI makes the device last for more than a day. The phone can easily last for 1 & ½ day with a full charge and an average usage. However, if you use the phone as a real maniac, then it will barely last for more than 5 hours on a constant usage.

Verdict

Moto E5+ is a great device and with all the pros and cons makes it an excellent package. Although the phone comes at a hefty price when compared to other phones in the competition and lacks most of the features such as the dual rear camera and even the face detection with bokeh effect for cameras. All these are compensated with the Moto branding to the front and the back, and even the trust that Motorola has on its customers.
