Honor 9N Review

Honor 9N Review

Honor launched another phone in the budget price tag, although there are many devices in the price bracket, most of them featured the 18:9 ratio display with no notch, this time Honor launched the Honor 9N where the N might stand for the notch. This way honor is not missing any style with which you can’t be amazed. The device is launched as a Flipkart exclusive device, which does make it kind of difficult to grab. Let us have a look at the Honor 9N and see if it can create the same effect as its previous launches.

Design & Build

The phone is having the same design language as its other devices in the Honor 9 lineup. At the rear, we have the dual camera setup towards the left of the device on the top. Just beside it, we have the flashlight, and in the center aligned towards the top, we have the fingerprint scanner. Even on the bottom, we have the honor branding.

On the front side we have the notched display which has the camera, sensors, and earpiece on the top, on the bottom we have the Honor branding in the chin, this does ruins the all screen design of the phone, but does look good in the long run, and especially noting the price tag of the device. The device is a glass and metal sandwich due which the phone looks and feels good in the hand. Also, the phone is to be durable as we have the Gorilla Glass 3 protection both on the front and at the back of the device.

Display

The front of the device is covered with a 5.84 – inch display which is an FHD+ resolution unit. The display is an LCD unit which does tamper with the dynamic range of the display.  The phone is a capable unit to display all the right colors, and also the Notch on the display is padded well by the software, so there is nothing which is being tampered with due to it.

Another great thing about the Honor 9N is about the daylight legibility of the phone. And added by the really low brightness levels of the screen which will assist you during the night time. There is a ton of customization available for the screen where you can use the Night Mode to strain your eyes less.

Performance

Honor 9N is offered with their in-house built Kirin 659 SoC which has an equivalent performance of the Snapdragon 630 SoC, there are even couple of options on the RAM which can be either 4GB or 3GB. The 3GB version does make the phone’s package look kind of boring. The 4GB RAM can be picked up with 64GB or 128GB optional storages. While the 3GB RAM is just offered with a 32GB storage option.

Talking about the real-time performance of the phone, it is made to make the everyday work easy. The 3GB RAM option is only good for using it for calling and light social media and is no better for anything else. The main reason for the same is the limited resources it has to work in. For the 4GB variant, the device can perform good and without any issue. The device is able to do light gaming, and can even handle the workload for heavy multitasking.

The applications are not going to be in the memory for a long time and will soon get out of memory just after you open the 3rd application. But do note that light multitasking can be doing fluently without much of the delay. Gaming on the phone till Medium setting is playable, and winnable also. But if you are looking to play the game in high settings then the game will be playable, but you will be blocked from winning as in intensive areas the phone will lag and can make you lose.

Camera

Honor 9N supports 13MP and 2MP rear camera, the 2MP sensor at the rear makes it for the blur effect. On the front, we have a 16MP sensor to take care of the selfie task. On the front, there is no flashlight available, hence the phone uses the screen to light up your face in the dark. Although the chipset and the sensor are capable of 4K video recording, the phone is just capped at 1080P even on the rear camera.

For most of the part, both the sensors produce nice images which are rich in colors and have a good amount of saturation in them. The colors look natural and were good for a wide majority of the taste. But like every other phone, this phone also lacks in the night photographs, and you are going to get the same crappy pictures at the night. The only reason for the same is due to the sensor apertures.

Battery

The phone comes with a 3000 mAh battery which will assist you for most of the part. During the real world usage, the phone will help you to stay awake the whole day. The device can easily make to the end of the day with 30% of battery left, with the phone just being used for normal calling and nominal social media. If you are going to use the phone for gaming and camera work the phone will barely last for around 4Hours, but do note the screen on time will hover around 5 hours if you are using the phone for calling, and social media which is great by the budget.

Verdict

Overall the phone is quite great in the price bracket, especially when you compare the device with the segment best devices such as the Redmi Note 5, Moto E5 Plus, Nokia 3.1 and other, this one is offering way better specifications as the same price. Even the new looks with the Notch are going to attract a lot of people asking you for the price and performance of the phone. If you want performance and style then you can opt for the 4GB variant with the 64GB or 128GB option while the 3GB RAM option is for the people who will be using the phone mainly for calling.
