Honor Play Review

Honor Play Review

Huawei has been launching many devices in the recent days, currently, they have their phone targeted in the mid-ranged device segment, and have all the different screen style devices which contain notch, or no notch with bezels, and an 18:9 ratio display without any bezels. They have launched another phone in India the Honor Play which is targeted on upper mid-end devices. There are many devices in the market from Honor, so today let us see what exactly does the Honor Play have to offer us in the review ahead.

Design & build

Just as the other devices which are launched by the company even the Honor Play comes with the same design language, the back of the phone comes with a unibody metal construction unlike another top of the line handsets from Huawei which comes with a glass back. The phone feels extremely easy and comfortable to hold in hand.

Talking about the placements we have the front display with a notch, and the camera and other sensors along with the earpiece placed in the notch. On the bottom portion, we have an honor branding on the phone and which translates that we have a bezel which is thick to accommodate the branding.  On the back we have the vertically placed dual camera set up along with the dual tone flash,  There is even a fingerprint scanner just in the center of the back with the honor branding towards the bottom left of the device.

Display

Talking about the display we have the 6.3-inch display which comes with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 this is to ensure that the contents and apps loads without any issue due to the notch. The display panel of the phone happens to have a pixel density of 403 PPI which more than adequate to offer a good crispy image from the display. A display unit is a good unit which can easily produce the vibrant and well-saturated images. The colors from the display pop up and hence it does translates that you can easily get in love with the display of the phone.

Overall the phone can be used in any situation ranging from extremely lit daylight to pitch dark room, in the night the display is able to be extremely dark where it will not strain your eyes, while in the daytime the display becomes extremely bright which can easily result in the phone visible in the daytime. There are even settings available in the phone to change the display colors which will enable us to have better controls over the colors emitting from the display which is a better point.

Performance

Honor Play comes with a new technology which is known as GPU Turbo Technology, with this technology the phone is said to heat much lesser then it used to do on heavy games, especially on games such as PubG and Alphalt 8 the phone will be performing much better. This technology is yet not enabled and hence it needs to be enabled from the developer end of the games, and till then you will have to wait for its release.

The phone comes with its own in-house developed Kirin 970 chipset which is assisted by 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. This translates the device to be a good overall performer. The phone is capable of playing most of the games while it is equally good in performance in multitasking between the applications. You can easily use the device as your daily driver without any issue on the gaming or on the multitasking side. But you will have to note that you cannot open any more than 4applicastion simultaneously due to the low side of the ram.

Camera

Honor Play rocks a 16MP sensor at the back which is the primary camera, as the secondary camera we have a 2MP one. On the front we have a 16MP sensor, the rear camera comes with a f/2.2 aperture which makes the phone a capable shooter.

The camera on the Honor Play is quite good and it performs at its best, the images produced by the rear camera are quite great and we can find a good amount of details from the pictures. Same goes for the front camera where we have a good amount of details and colors too. The front camera is a wide unit which makes the front camera to take those ultra-wide group selfies which you were not able to take until now.

The performance of the camera in daylight is good and the images produced are sharp, but when the AI plays the role it spoils the images making them look artificial. The images overall also happen to have a good amount of saturation and again the AI wins in destroying images and they look highly unsaturated and the colors also look shifted.

Battery

In the battery department, the phone scored quite well and we can easily see the phone running in the marathon for the same. The phone can easily last a day long when used for occasional gaming and calling things. But where the phone performs excellently is the Gaming part, you can easily play games for much longer than on other handsets this is just due to the GPU boost technology where you will have a better overall battery life due to the graphics being rendered at an early stage and not in real time.

Also if you are using the phone for just calling and social media then you will find the phone to perform really well and can even last for more than a day, while if you barely use the phone it can even turn out your charging interval to 3 times in a week.

Verdict

The Honor Play gives a good mileage when it comes to performance, but if you are looking for something classier then it is not the one to find. Honor play is a great device for game lovers who love to game on their device. There are many other devices in the price range, so do check out the Samsung Galaxy On8, Redmi Note 5 Pro and other reviews on our website, and do let us know what do you think in our comment section.
