BlackBerry Evolve X Review

BlackBerry Evolve X Review

Blackberry launched 2 devices recently one of which is the Blackberry Evolve and another is Blackberry Evolve X, both the devices were launched at a premium pricing and comes with a mediocre hardware. Although both the devices have the top of the line security system from Blackberry that has been patented to offer the best of security features, despite having the same Android workspace.

The Blackberry Evolve X is the next-gen Android product from Blackberry which comes with the new dual camera system and the all-new 18:9 ratio display let us have a look if the all new Blackberry Evolve X has really evolved in the performance in the review ahead.

Design & Build

The device is a premium hardware from Blackberry which comes with a massive display on the front, on the back we have the dual camera setup and a fingerprint setup also to the back. The Evolve X is drastically different from its previous successor the Key 2, Key 2 had a keyboard to the bottom of the phone on the front, but the Blackberry Evolve X is just like any other flagship of 2018. The front screen of the display doesn’t have lots of bezels and overall the bezels look quite great.

On the back, you get a soft touch rubbery back panel that will do remind you of the older phones from blackberry. It is a great thing to note that due to the rubber back Blackberry is easily able to use the wireless charging as a feature on the phone. Talking about the construction it is basically metal where you get metal border all around the mobile phone. Metal and rubber construction make the phone easy to grip in one hand and thanks to the 18:9 ratio display the phone doesn’t even looks bulky.

Display

The device rocks a 5.99-inch display unit which is an FHD Plus setup with a ratio of 18:9, the screen dominates the front of the phone and the side bezels of the screen are quite small which gives the phone a great feel. The screen size is on a bigger side makes the phone comfortable to be watching media, hence it is good for people who like media consumption.

Talking about the color reproduction, the screen was able to churn out good images with a great amount of saturation and a good amount of colors. The color doesn’t pop up just as you would see on a Samsung device, but it does work fine for the price point, and surely you are going to have a  good time while looking at the phone.

Performance

The Evolve X have evolved with the Snapdragon 660 processor which is assisted with the 6GB RAM and 64GB of storage. The RAM is really high and same goes for the processor which is the same processor from 2015 which was tagged as Snapdragon 805, although this unit undergoes some changes and is now able to attain a much better battery life. The Snapdragon 660 is a real capable unit and can easily make you enjoy the performance of the device.

If you used the Blackberry Key 2 it was also powered with the same processor and hence there is not much for Blackberry to do in order to change the software for the Evolve X. The processor does a decently well job in making the phone perform really well and you can easily get the best of the performance from the device especially in gaming. The phone is capable to game almost on all the latest updates of games. It is even great when it comes to multi-tasking all due to the huge amount of RAM available with the phone, the RAM also helps you to keep around 7-8 apps in the primary memory and you can multi-task on the phone heavily.

Camera

The device comes with the latest gen technology of dual cameras, here we get a dual camera setup where the primary snapper is a 12 MP unit while the secondary snapper which is a 13MP unit is a 2x telephoto lens. We also have a dual – tone LED flash on the phone which gives the device a great start. According to Blackberry, the phone is able to perform really well especially in the night situations and we can easily have a good time shooting with the device at the night time. When it comes to the front camera we have a 16MP shooter which is also a capable shooter in most of the conditions.

Talking about the picture quality from the rear camera, you can easily get good shots with the help of flash at the night, and even in daytime. The color and saturation from the pictures are quite good, and you will enjoy the quality of images especially from the rear camera, and the dual camera will be offering a really good DSLR like picture quality. From the front camera, you can take some great pictures which can even end up in some really good group selfies as the front camera of the phone is really wide.

Battery

The device comes with a 4000 mAh battery which does makes the phone a bulky unit. When we tasted the Blackberry Key 2 it was offering somewhere around a day and a half, and Blackberry quoted that the Evolve 2 will offer twice the battery life of the Key 2.

This does translate to the real world and on the same usage, we were able to get 2 & ½ day of battery life which is great numbers in today’s situation. This means if you use the phone just for calling, and normal social media you can use the phone for two days, although if you are a real maniac for gaming then you will have issues using the phone for more than a day and you will for sure have to charge the device at the end of the day.

Verdict

Blackberry Evolve X is a great device for the people who want a phone for security measures, i.e. if you are a business person who stores most of the information on the mobile phone then the phone is a great buy for you. Also, there is no issue on the phone especially on the performance side, even the camera of the phone performs spectacular, what do you think about the Blackberry Evolve X? do let us know your thoughts in the comment section below, also have a look at other reviews we posted recently.
