ARCHOS Access 57 Review

ARCHOS Access 57 Review

Each and every mobile phone gets something or the other out of the box, and this time it is the ARCHOS Access 57 which is backed by the Google’s Android Go program. Yes, this device comes with the Android Oreo Go Edition which will actually help us to run the mobile device smoothly even having a low specification. Google has been taking initiatives to make this possible, and many companies in India are starting to bring this up for the people who are more interested in the budget devices to fulfill their need.

Although there are many limitations of the Google’s Android Go Edition, but we will talk about the same in detail in the review, so for now let us start with the review with the design & build and then move forward to know if the device is capable enough to rock the Android Go Edition software and make it possible for the users to use the phone smooth enough to make it a daily driver.

Design & Build

If you are thinking that this device will bring those bulky bezels, and an average quality builds the device. Then it is not the case with the phone from Archos, this device comes with a modern 18:9 ratio display and have a modern tall boy design on the phone. Access 57 makes it possible for you to have a good view of the surroundings in your phone, with its single camera at the back and the single camera at the front. In the design, we just have the display on the front, while on the back we have a camera unit towards the top left corner of the phone. On the front on the top, we have the earpiece, sensors, and the camera unit. At the back, we even have the ARCHOS branding.

Coming to the build quality, the phone is majorly constructed from plastic with negligible use of metals. The phone feels crampy in hand and it makes it feels cheap due to its flexible nature. Access 57 is only good for accessing the internet, and the basic mobile features, and hence is not made for much of the rough and tough use. The device does have a decent amount of flex and we can easily observe the bending in the phone, hence if you are planning to get this device then you must be sure to keep the device safe and sound from lots of loads.

Display

Talking about the display as it goes for any other brand it is the major and the most important component of the phone. The Access 57 is a budget device as it is offered with the Android Go software. This makes it clear that there will be nothing much to talk about the display unit. Although the screen is a budget offered and doesn’t have anything extraordinary to talk about still let us have a look at the same. Archos Access 57 comes with a 5.7 – inch display which is available with a resolution of 480 x 960px resolution, although it will not result into a sharp image it has made the display of the phone come into the league of the modern display with the 18:9 ratio.

Colors, Contrasts, and viewing angle of the display is not that great and you will surely see the colors fading away in the extreme angles, although this issue had to be there on the display as the phone is really maxing on its budget. As far as the contrast goes, you will not have the pure black and it will be sought of dark grey thing, and this will make sure that even on the full black display being shown, you can distinguish the display from the body. Another downside of the phone is going to be the brightness levels, during the daytime we are not going to have the screen too bright to be legible enough in the dark sun, while even in the night the display will be bright to pinpoint in the eyes.

Performance

Android Go’s software is not made for anyone who is looking to juice out the performance from the phone. The phone comes with a Spreadtrum processor which is a quad-core unit and is backed by just 1 GB of Ram and 16 GB of Internal Storage. As far as the storage is concerned it is quite adequate for a normal person using his phone mainly targeted towards calling, normal WhatsApp and other such social media stuff. Although there is even an option available for expansion.

The phone offers decent performance with the Android Go software which is a toned down version of Android, and this particular operating system is based upon the Oreo version of Android. There are fewer chances of an update, but on Android Go, the phone is working quite well. Normal calling, SMS, WhatsApp and other features work quite well as far as you are using the phone with only one app at a time. Multitasking is a task high above the talks on the phone and hence you must not try to do the same on the mobile device.

Camera

The phone comes with a single 8 MP camera at the back while the front camera is rocking just a 2MP sensor. Both the sensors on the phone are not a capable one and are surely going to lag behind most of the devices even in the same price range. The camera of the phone is only good enough to let you take pictures of some IDs or some information in case you need to refer to them at a later stage.

The colors from the camera are not that great and look flushed out and are not an accurate replica of the original colors which you did capture. On the other hand, the camera is not even capable of capturing a good video hence it is barely a device left for phone calls and other social media acts.

Battery

The phone comes preinstalled with a puny 2400 mAh battery which is not sufficient to drive the phone more than a day, as the phone is not meant for any hardcore task the phone will be saving much of the power for its calling and other tasks, but on the phone majority of the power is used by the camera which is the week point, if you use the camera for more than 10 mins the phone does heat up. Charging the phone is another hectic task as it charges quite slowly and needs around 3 hours to top up.

Verdict

ARCHOS Access 57 is not a great device as far as pricing is concerned, the device can perform quite great keeping the Android Go software in mind. The device will make sure that most of your tasks are done without any interference, also another important thing to note about the device is the durability which is quite good due to the lightweight and strong plastic build which is flexible and hence glass breaks will not be quite often.
