Motorola One Power Review

Motorola One Power Review

Motorola was the first company to make a mobile phone, and due to reasons it went to be totally dead, and it was the point when Google came to its rescue and Motorola started with a bang, later the company saw different owners and is now under Lenovo walking towards its slow death due to less frequent updates, and lineup of devices where even Motorola is confused which device is better and which is not.

Today we are going to talk about one such device the Motorola One Power which has been in the market recently. Today we will see to it if this device is capable to deal with the best in class performers in the price bracket. Do note that this device is under the Android One program and hence this will be making a great influence over the result.

Design & Build

With the typical Motorola dimple at the back which houses the Motorola logo we have the Moto One Power looking quite good on the rear, the dimple also does house the fingerprint scanner which is another great design bit and is for sure important to discuss beforehand starting with anything else.

Talking about the camera unit we have it placed vertically wherein the two different sensors surround the single flash. That’s all for the back but still, there is a thing missing, which is the Android One logo that is present in black at the bottom of the phone on the back.

Talking about the front part of the phone we have a notched display which is a 6.2- inch unit but does looks good with the notch which is proportional, and at the bottom we do have a slight bezel which houses Motorola instead of Moto which is quite interesting, because last year Lenovo converted the Motorola brand as a category under the Lenovo line-up, might be they changed their mind and now again the Motorola branded devices will come with full Motorola branding.

Talking about the build quality of the phone, we have the phone as a single unit due to the unibody shell while on the front we have the best in class Gorilla Glass 3 protection, protecting against the scratches and minor falls.

Display

Motorola includes a 6.2-inch display with the phone which happens to cover over 80% of the front of the phone, while the rest is covered with the branding on the bottom bezel and sensors on the top notch. Still, the ratio is quite good. Talking about the panel it is an LTPS IPS LCD one and hence can easily produce a set of 16 million different colors.

The panel comes in an aspect ratio of 18.7:9 which is one of the most unique aspect ratio seen in recent years. The panel happens to have a resolution of 1080 x 2246 pixels which is FHD+ and hence you can easily enjoy full HD videos on your mobile phone.

In the real world, the display is quite good and you can easily view the different colors in their full glow without any issue. Display quality is quite good and you can easily have a look at the screen from different angles too.

When it comes to the vibrancy and contrast ratio of the screen then too the panel outshines all the other panels in the industry as of now competing against the Motorola One Power. In the daytime, you can easily view the screen of the phone without any issue, but during the night the panel will create issues for your eyes by straining them.

Performance

Motorola loads the One Power with a really powerful chipset from Qualcomm’s last year lineup, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636. This is a really powerful chip which happens to have Kryo cores clocked at 1.8 GHz making the processor a really healthy one.

Assisting the same is the Adreno 509 GPU and even the 4GB or 3GB RAM options for the consumers. While there is also a 6GB Ram option for the phone, but that is only available in China. This phone doesn’t come with a 128GB variant and hence you are surely going to have issues with the storage of the device.

When it comes to the real world performance of the phone you are going to be amazed by the performance of the chipset as well the device. Being an Android One project device we are going to see the latest update really soon and that will be a positive point for this device.

Although there are competitors with Android One branding from Nokia still One Power is better because Motorola already comes with the knowledge to work on Google’s stock android. The processor is quite fast to handle most of the games with ease and there is going to be no issues with the device when it comes to handling any kind of game or any other app for daily usage.

Camera

The most important segment for any mobile phone is this one, here in most of the people decide because its an era of social media posting and everyone like to be the best. Talking about the rear setup on this phone, we have a 16MP primary sensor while the second one is a 5MP one. On the front we have a 12MP sensor making it easy for you to click some great selfies. With the rear camera, we can take QHD videos while with the front camera we are capped at FHD only.

Coming to the pictures taken with the device they are good enough to create a great impression on the people viewing your pictures over the social media. When it comes to the videos both the camera on the front and even on the back rocks and make it possible for us to publish those videos for official and professional usage too.

This cannot be said for the images because somewhere or the other the images from the Camera lacks behind especially in saturation and need a bit of editing from different software.

Battery

Motorola kept in mind about the kind of market they are targeting, and for sure they are going for the people who are Hungary for using the phone the whole day and for the same issue they loaded the device with a 5000 mAh battery.

This battery unit is capable enough to rock the phone for over 1 day easily with nominal usage, and if you are using the phone only for calling and casual social media then you are going to encounter a battery usage of over 3 days. Although if you are a maniac this is a great phone for you and you will for sure fall in love with the phone because with heavy usage too phone can easily last for up to 1 full working day.

Verdict

Motorola one Power is a great device for people who are considering the Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 5 Pro for its battery life, even the Mi A2 is not in the league of Motorola’s One Power. Hence if you are going for battery life and build quality then One Power is a great phone, although for the camera there are many other devices in the market which you can look after.
