iPhone Xr vs iPhone X Comparison

Apple has been making the best in class devices for a long time and there is no difference between the iPhone X and the XR, but there is a huge difference between the two. The all new iPhone Xr is the entry-level handset of Apple’s lineup of 2018 while iPhone X was last year’s top of the line device of 2017.

As of today, both the devices are not left with a lot of price difference and for people who are thinking to get the iPhone Xr, today we are going to compare the two devices and see if these devices are enough for us to do or daily work.

Going forward we will even be looking to the software improvements and other features in the device so that we can compare the two devices better in terms of functionality so at the end of the day, only the hardware must not be your viewpoint in taking a new device.

Design & Build

Both the iPhone X and iPhone Xr comes with the same design language and it is quite true as iPhone Xr was inspired from the same device. iPhone X does have a better build thanks to the Stainless steel band all around the device. iPhone Xr does fall off due to the aluminum build surrounding both the back and front glass unit. Both the iPhones have glass on the back and on the front this makes the phone have the premium design feel on both the devices.

Talking about the placements of buttons and ports, we have the power button on the right side of the device, and volume buttons and volume slider switch onto the left side. At the back, we have the camera, flash, and microphone, on the iPhone X we have dual camera unit while on the iPhone Xr we have a single camera unit. At the bottom, there are speaker holes and the lightning port connector.

Display

The all new iPhone Xr comes with an IPS LCD panel which is a major drawback of the device, as most of the device of 60% of the price of this particular phone owns an AMOLED display for their customers. Even the top of the line variants of the iPhone i.e. the Xs and the Xs Max comes with the Super AMOLED display which is sourced from Samsung. This does results in the phone having the best in class display on them to support the customers to have the better image output and a much better viewing experience.

Although the panel is not that great either in terms of technology or in terms of resolution still the iPhone Xr have a great output from the screen this is all due to the type of panel used on it. It is the best quality of IPS LCD panel and hence produces the best of colors, the best of contrasts, and the best color depths. All this results into the phone showcasing a good quality image to the end user, hence the users are not much affected due to the panel changed on the two devices.

The major con on the two due to the display is that the 4K and FHD videos played on the iPhone X will look far sharper and better than the look they will give when played on the iPhone Xr. All this does affect the user in the longer run, but if you are someone who likes to change devices every year, and this year you are looking for an upgrade to the iPhone then the iPhone Xr panel is not going to give you any issues.

Performance

Apple loads the all-new iPhone Xr with the best of their lineup Apple’s A12 Bionic chipset, and this is going to handle all the different activities on the mobile phone. Last year’s iPhone featured the last generation of their chip the Apple A11 Bionic. The difference is a huge one, as the last year’s model comes with a quad-core processor while this year Apple moved to a hexacore chipset. This is for sure going to boost the performance of the chipset by a huge margin.

Coming to the real-time performance of both the chips there is not much of difference that can be noted, but for sure you will note the difference in the speed when you are doing a heavy task, and in games, the game is for sure going to load at a much faster pace. If you are someone who likes to game a lot then the difference will be visible between the two as the iPhone Xr is faster and have to push much lesser pixels than the iPhone X which have a slower CPU available with it.

Both the iPhone X and the iPhone Xr comes with 3Gigs of RAM and hence there is no difference between the two in terms of multitasking, although applications are going to load a tad faster on the iPhone Xr due to the display and a faster CPU available on the phone.

Camera

In this department, the new iPhone Xr is defeated and that is due to the single lens available onto the mobile phone. The last year’s device had a dual camera setup, on the iPhone Xr we get a single 12MP camera that is loaded with OIS to take different pictures. Talking about the iPhone X we have two different 12MP sensors wherein both of them are loaded with OIS. Talking about the front camera of both the phone then they are the same 7MP sensor.

In real-world conditions there is no difference in the images captured from the two devices, even the iPhone X and the iPhone Xr generates the same images as the phones are having almost the same camera sensors.

Talking about the iPhone Xr the images from the rear camera unit are going to have a bit softer images when you are capturing the Bokeh images that are due to the missing zoom lens. On the iPhone X we have the two different lenses with different focal length hence it is a better-capturing device.

On the front camera, the iPhone Xr excels that is due to the newer chipset that is much better in processing the images with the different lighting features and other features on the iPhone X and the Xr. When we talk about the front camera we can say that the images are a bit softer on the iPhone Xr and there is some kind of beautification running behind the scenes. Hence if you are someone looking for a good quality camera then iPhone X is a better choice of the two.

Battery

In the battery section, we do have to get to a debate as both similar rating battery where the iPhone X the older one gets one with 2716 mAh, while the iPhone Xr gets one with 2915mAh. Both the units tend to get similar performance but here is a bummer and the iPhone Xr gets a way better battery life than the iPhone X and hence all the power hungry users might want to upgrade to the iPhone Xr to get the performance and the battery life the basic things that are required from a basic phone.

In real world situation, the iPhone Xr is capable of powering a normal user over 2 continuous days without a power plug while the iPhone X gets only around a day. While a power user can get a single day from iPhone Xr and iPhone X user have to do a top up at the end of the day.

Verdict

Both the iPhone Xr and the iPhone X are great machines for doing the daily task. But picking one up from them is a huge task and one cannot do that easily. Hence getting your work done with a bit of ease, the iPhone Xr and the iPhone X both are good in terms of camera and in terms of build but do note that iPhone X does have a non-denying fact of a better build quality.

When it comes to the iPhone Xr it is a better performer and comes with a better battery life. What do you think about the all new devices? Do let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
