iPhone Xs Review

Apple launched the all-new update to last year’s iPhone and this year the whole line-up speaks that iPhone has finally grown up with the design. Apple has redesigned the iPhone to the same design that was implanted with the iPhone X, this marks an official end to the yearlong design language of the symmetric body and the Home Button on the iPhone both physical as well as one with tactic feel.

A Total of three iPhones debut this year and they were the iPhone Xs the original upgrade to the iPhone X then it was the iPhone Xs Max a bigger version of the original, and iPhone Xr the budget iPhone.

As of today, we are reviewing the latest in the line up i.e. the original update to the iPhone X. We will have a look at the all-new iPhone Xs and look after the review of the phone wherein we will have a look at one of the best devices in the mobile industry in 2018. We will also have a look if this device is worth an upgrade so you can use this phone for the next year or so and will still be happy without an upgrade anytime soon.

Design & Build

iPhone’s design cues fall at the right place and in with the right amount of weight. Talking about the iPhone Xs front it is the same what we saw on the iPhone X with almost the same amount of bezel, and even the notch cut-out happens to have the same sensors on the front hence technically not much have changed here.

Coming to the back of the device we have the same design cue with the vertical standing camera unit which is actually a dual camera setup and happens to have a dual tone flash in between.

The power button is found to the right of the phone, and the volume rocker and slider alert switch is placed on the left side. With the Apple logo right in the center the phone looks great and makes the device great icon for showcasing the design. The device is a glass sandwich with stainless steel band all around, and this makes the all-new iPhone X the most durable handset in the world.

The Antenna bands on this phone have actually changed the position from last year, and this is the evident change one can see in the two. Overall the phone looks premium and feels like one in the hand, this gives people the freedom to spend that extra money Apple has been demanding for the phone.

Display

Apple loads the iPhone Xs with a 5.8-inch display panel on the front which for obvious reasons have a cutout on the top of the device, and that is the notch that everyone is a fan of. The 5.8-inch panel carries a resolution of 1125 x 2436 pixels which is a really interesting resolution size, but iPhones are known to carry one, this results into the phone having a pixel density of 458 PPI.

The panel used by Apple is a Super AMOLED one and covers the front of the display up to 82.9% which is a great number especially in 2018. Display carries an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and hence this creates the room for the top to create the extra space for the notch and doesn’t interfere in the normal working of the phone.

When we are talking about the real world usage of the phone, it is quite great all due to the help of the Super AMOLED display that is used on the mobile phone. Coming to the contrast ratios from the screen they are superb and hence the colors even stand out more on the mobile phone, all this results into the phone being a great one for watching movies, and standing out in the crowd with a great display onboard.

The screen is a great one and hence you will not have any issue using the phone in the daytime in the bright outdoor sunlight, while when you are using the phone in the night time there will be no issues again as the screen can go relatively dark enough that it doesn’t hurt your eyes.

Performance

Giving the best in class performing chip is the key aim for Apple, and this time they have given the Apple’s A12 Bionic chipset which is manufactured on the 7nm technology and this results into the phone having the best in class performance both in terms of battery and even in terms of outright performance.

Coming to the chip which is handling the Graphics duty on the phone we have the Apple GPU which contains 4 cores and is handling all the different games related things. iPhone have RAM upgraded this year and it has 4Gigs of RAM this time around, hence it is clear that you are going to have way better multitasking performance.

Talking about the iOS 12’ss performance which has been rocking the iPhone Xs till now it is quite great and multitasking on the phone was quite fantastic with each and every app getting proper position to run and process all the data.

Do note games like PUBG and Asphalt 8 does test the performance of the phone but it doesn’t let you surely know the outright performance as they are not able to stress the phone to the fullest, and that’s the key to the iPhone’s operating system that it is optimized in the best way for the hardware. This is something that most of the phones must have achieved, but in order to get the most of newest tech optimization is something that’s missing on other devices.

Camera

Apple loads the all-new iPhone Xs with a dual camera set up at the back as it was the case since iPhone 7 Plus. This phone gets dual 12MP sensors where one get f/1.8 aperture and is 26mm wide, while the other sensor is fitted with a f/2.4 aperture lens and comes with a 52mm telephoto view.

Both the rear camera gets OIS inside the same and this result in the phone getting the best of images even with the shakiest hands. Talking about the front sensor we have it as a 7MP one which comes with an aperture value of f/2.2. Coming to the viewpoint of the front camera, it is almost the same standard feel that we get on most of the devices.

Talking about these camera units, they capture some great pictures that for sure are going to rock your social media accounts. Apple is known for making the best camera units, and it is evident with the pictures where each and every color falls at the right place, and there are no artificial effects on to the pictures and this makes it clear that your images will showcase the most original look of every image.

Coming to the front camera, in the iOS 12 update there were rumors that the camera does soften the image a bit to actually beautify the images, and hence it is quite evident that artificial images are not liked by Apple users, hence in the next update, it will be changed to the original feel.

Battery

Apple has been loading the phone with a mysterious amount of battery as they are never into revealing the specs, as it mostly works with them as that this one is better than the last one, still according to sources we have a 2700 mAh battery and this makes clear that you can use the phone for over a day without any hiccup.

Although if you are using the phone for day long for doing social media task, and being attached to all your friends with calls then this phone will surely give you a good 8 hours of usage, while if you game like a maniac on the phone then you are for sure getting a good 4 hours of constant usage.

Verdict

Apple iPhone Xs is a great device that for sure is going to get the best in class performance, best in class looks, the best in class build, the best in class camera, the best in the class display. All the different parts on the phone are great and for sure going to make you feel great for the phone you own in hand.

If you are looking forward to the phone as your daily user and upgrade from iPhone 7 or earlier then it is the right buy although if you want to upgrade to the iPhone Xs from iPhone X then this one is not a great pick.
