Razer Phone 2 Review

If you are a gamer then you must have heard about the Razer brand which has been into gaming laptops and gaming accessories. Most of the accessories included some best of the features which are exclusive to the brands, hence if you were looking for premium accessories and laptops for gaming then it was the go-to brand for most of the things.

Recently Razer launched their first gaming smartphone, which was not a big hit, but was a collector’s edition, and even included some of the best in class features such as the first 120Hz display to deliver the best in class output. They have come up with another device as the Razer Phone 2, and this device is even a better one.

Let us review the device and look forward if this one is the best for gamers and even a good bet for the people who are looking for a normal phone for daily use, and need something unique.

Design & Build

Razer Phone 2 is one of the best-designed phones in 2018. It’s not the best when it comes to the front looks, but as far as the rear looks of the mobile phone are considered we can see that the phone with the glowing logo at the back gives a far better feel than most other devices.

This Razer logo has done something that iPhone users have been demanding from Apple for a long time. Talking about the placements we have a dual camera setup at the back of the device which is actually placed in the center of the phone positioning slightly towards the top of the phone. Then we have the Razer logo on the device which is positioned exactly in the center giving the phone a great feel and look.

On the front, the all-new Razer Phone 2 has a kind of old look. With the display still being a 16:9 ratio display which makes it one of the first phones in 2018 to be launched with the old form factor. On the top and bottom side of the phone, we have the bezels which make room for the speakers.

On the top, we have the front facing camera and other sensors along with the earpiece. At the bottom, we just have the main speaker. The whole phone is made up of aluminum which gives the phone a rigid feel. At the front, there is Gorilla Glass 5 which is one of the toughest one in the industry. The phone is great to hold in hand and gives the best in class feel when you hold the phone, although it might look a bit bulky over the other devices.

Display

The highlighting factor of the all-new Razer Phone 2 is the display of the phone, it is an IGZO IPS LCD display which is a unit capable of displaying over 16 million colors. The display size of the phone is 5.72 inches and comes at a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels.

All this results into the phone having a pixel density of 513 PPI. If you observed the resolution of the phone as it is the default numbers for a QHD display then you are correct this display is a 16:9 ratio one, which was the most common ratio in 2016 and earlier years.

Although the aspect ratio of the phone is kind of old still the phone comes with best of the features for the display such as the Wide Colour Gamut, 120Hz display, and the most important part is about the display being able to output over 580 nits of brightness. The overall screen of the phone is good and you can easily view the content during the daytime or during the night time and it is not going to strain your eyes in any possible manner.

Performance

Keeping the performance factor in mind Razer have made it possible for the Razer Phone 2 to come equipped with the latest Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset. This particular chip is developed on the 10nm platform and comes with the support of Adreno 630 GPU which is again a great chip for handling the Graphics need of any processor.

Assisting the processors is the 8GB of RAM which is sufficient enough to make it possible for the phone to keep in memory over 2 games, and over 8 different applications. This is one of the most insane amounts of RAM available on the phone and optimized in a way to show its true sense.

In real-world conditions, the phone works quite well and it is true fact that the Snapdragon 845 is going to perform the best with its power utilized in the best manner. Gaming is the best on this particular phone, and when it comes to the true gamin this phone is going to outperform most of the devices, and it’s all due to the 120Hz display equipped on the mobile phone.

Multi-Tasking is also great on the mobile phone and you can easily utilize the 8 Gigs of RAM available on the phone in many different ways according to your needs.

Camera

Razer Phone 2 comes with a dual 12MP setup on the rear of the phone. The primary sensor is a 25mm wide one and comes with an aperture value of f/1.8 while the second lens is a f/2.6 aperture one and comes with the 2x optical zoom which will be easily around 50mm focal length. Coming to the front of the device we have the phone with an 8MP sensor which is having an aperture value of f/2.0.

This particular setup of the camera on the mobile phone, works fine for most of the part, but at the end of the day when you are evaluating it on a scale of 10 for overall performance then it will lay around 8 because the night performance and manual mode performance of the mobile phone was quite average. Rest the daytime performance and the normal mode of the camera produced some great pictures which were great in saturation as well as contrast.

Battery

Razer has equipped the mobile phone with 4000 mAh battery which makes it capable to be running all day long without any issue. The phone has a chip developed on the 10nm chipset and hence the power consumption is quite less when compared to other chipsets.

The phone is easily able to be powered for over 40 hours without any issue, but you must charge the phone daily and if you do so, you will be left with around 50% battery at the end of the day.

Verdict

The new Razer Phone 2 is a great device and is meant to be competing against the top of the line flagship devices. Most of the devices are meant for productivity, but this is the only phone made for true gaming. If you are a gamer and is looking for a phone to work for all day without any issue, even if you are gaming on the phone continuously, then this is the one to opt for.
