Huawei Mate 20 Pro Review

There were two different devices that were launched by Huawei in the Mate 20 lineup, one was the mate 20 X while the other was the Mate 20 Pro. The Mate 20 X is one of the best smartphone launches in 2018, and same goes with the Mate 20 Pro as it is another great device in the market which is far better than the other and is ready to conquer the smartphone market.

Today we are going to review the all new Huawei Mate 20 Pro and will keep it against a couple of different devices in different regions and have a look how it performs and what is the best in class features of the device in the review ahead.

Design & Build

The design of the Mate 20 Pro from the rear resembles the adjacent launched device from Huawei the Mate 20 X. The square formation in which the triple camera setup is placed wherein we do have included the dual-tone flash, but it looks quite well proportioned, and a bit on the newer side as compared to the other traditional setups.

There is no fingerprint scanner at the back of the device which makes it clear that the scanner is inside the display of the phone. On the front of the phone, there is a notch which is quite evident and houses a lot of different sensors for all the different things to work smoothly and properly.

The notch on the front does hide some of the vital sensors which are necessary for Face ID and hence you are not going to miss the fingerprint scanner on the rear, but do not forget that is also present under the display.

Overall the phone is built from all the premium materials which include an aluminum frame, and glass on both the front as well as the back of the phone. Both the front and rear glasses are most probably the Gorilla Glass 5 from Corning, as the exact version is not specified by the company yet.

The in-hand feel of the phone excels in most of the department, and we get a good amount of feel from the phone without any doubt. The rear is made up of glass and hence Qi Wireless Fast Charging and Reverse Wireless Charging is supported via the Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

Display

This is the new flagship from the company and hence they are using a curved display unit on this particular phone. The phone comes with a screen size of 6.39 inches which is quite great, and we have a screen to body ratio on this particular phone at 87.9%.

The resolution on the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is 1440 x 3120 pixels and all this translates to QHD+ resolution. The display is present in an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and all this translates the device to have a pixel density of 538ppi which is quite good with respect to most of the devices of the same price range.

Huawei has loaded the Huawei Mate 20 Pro with a lot of technology for displaying the right colors such as DCI – P3 and HDR10, and all this translates the device to have a great color response in different situations, and most of the times you are going to enjoy using the device solely due to its display.

The panel is an AMOLED one it is going to have its own perks of better depths and higher contrast ratios. In the daytime, the panel shines and can easily tackle the sunlight without any issue. Talking about the night times you will have a bit of problem while using the phone as it will hurt the eyes

Performance

We have the best in the line Hisilicon Kirin 980 chip which was also loaded on the Huawei Mate 20 X. As the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is the top of the line unit of the company they have the same chip rocking inside the phone.

Supporting the CPU is the Mali G76 MP10 GPU which is going to have a nice time looking forward to the graphics that are being generated via the device. The mobile phone comes in two different configurations, one being available with 8GB RAM and 256GB Internal Storage, while the other is available with 128GB Storage and 6GB RAM.

Both the different variants of the phone does quite well in the market without any doubt, and you are going to have a nice time using the phone for any purposes including gaming. Make sure that you get the best of the graphics-intensive game for this particular unit as this will actually test the device by stressing it.

If you are someone who needs to do all the regular work then this is the phone for you, as all the different things thrown on the phone is game for it, and it will help you do most of the tasks without any issue.

Camera

Huawei used three different lenses from Leica for this particular unit wherein the primary sensor is a 4MP one which is 27mm wide with f/1.8 aperture and comes with Laser AF, the second lens is a 20MP one which is an ultra-wide one at 16mm and happens to have an aperture value of f/2.2 and is assisted via Laser AF.

The third sensor is an 8MP one which comes with an aperture value of f/2.4 and has an 80mm focal length giving it 5x optical zoom. This unit also comes with OIS to support it for taking stable pictures. Other two units are included with gyro EIS for better pictures and images.

Taking pictures with this particular phone is quite a breeze especially with its 24MP front camera which is 26mm wide. All the 4 sensors on this phone get the best of images without any issue, and the color reproduction is best in the industry and even with the competition.

If you are looking forward to a better camera then you must upgrade to a DSLR because that is only going to get some great pictures than this phone, and you are going to have better bokehs with the lenses of a DSLR only. The daytime and nighttime pictures with this particular phone are the best.
