1. Check mic connection

6. Change Zoom advanced audio settings

Zoom has advanced audio settings option to tweak the settings further. Zoom has the ability to reduce the background noise to enhance audio. Follow the below steps to clear the audio-related issues on Zoom.

  1. Launch the Zoom on your computer and click on settings.
  2. Go to the Audio tab and click on Advanced present at the bottom of the Audio tab.
  3. Here in the “Audio Processing” click on each drop-down box and change the option from Auto to moderate or disable and see if the microphone works.
  4. Or you can alternatively, check the box next to ‘Show in-meeting option to Enable Original Sound from microphone’ option.
  5. Now go back to the Zoom main screen and check a new “Turn the original sound on/off option” at the top. Click on it to change it.

7. Grant Zoom to access your microphone

If your WIndows doesn’t give the microphone permissions to the Zoom, you will not avail the microphone in the Zoom. Grant microphone access to the Zoom in Windows privacy settings by following the below steps.

  1. Open Settings on your Windows 10 by searching settings in the start menu or directly launch it by clicking Windows key + I on the keyboard.
  2. Go to Privacy.
  3. On the left pane, scroll down and click on the Microphone.
  4. Enable the toggle under ‘Allow desktop apps to access your Microphone’ and ‘Allow Microsoft Store apps to access your Microphone’. Also, scroll down and make sure Zoom has access to your microphone.

8. Update sound card drivers

Drivers are important software to communicate your hardware better internally with the OS. When the drivers are up to date you will feel a smooth performance when compared to the system running with outdated drivers. Make sure to update the sound driver if you have a problem in accessing microphone in Zoom. Steps are as follow.

  1. Right-click on This PC icon on the desktop and click on Device Manager or directly launch it by searching in the Windows start menu.
  2. Expand Sound, Video, and game controllers and right-click on your driver and select Update Driver.

9. Alternative method

Zoom has an interesting option which lets you use your smartphone mic instead of the computer. This is a pretty interesting and useful feature if you don’t have a microphone enabled on your computer.

To use this feature, download Zoom app on your Android or iOS and login with the same account you are using on your computer. Now, on the desktop version of Zoom, click on the arrow present next to Mute. Select Switch to Phone audio. You will be given a meeting ID and password. Use it to join the meeting on your phone.
