With each new release, Apple has been progressively attempting to minimize the bezels on its iPhones, and it now appears like the company is aiming for a bezel-less design in the future. According to sources, Apple has approached its display partners, Samsung and LG, about developing bezel-free OLED displays for future iPhone models. The highly anticipated iPhone 15 series, which includes the normal iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max, is set to be introduced in September and will feature thinner bezels than its predecessors. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is said to have bezels as thin as 1.55mm.
However, some reports have suggested that the iPhone 15 Pro could face a delay due to issues with screen production. Nevertheless, a recent report from Display Supply Chain Consultants indicates that LG Display has successfully resolved the display challenges.
According to sources, Apple has ambitious plans to create an iPhone with a truly bezel-less display. To achieve this, the company has requested Samsung and LG Display to develop flat OLED panels without any bezels. This requires advancements in thin film encapsulation (TFE) and under-panel camera (UPC) technologies to eliminate bezels. Additionally, space must be allocated for antennas, while Face ID sensors and cameras will be placed beneath the display for a seamless design.
To create a bezel-less display, the outer film encapsulation of the product must be even thinner than the current design, and the UPC should blend in seamlessly with the rest of the display, enhancing the overall user experience and immersion.
