This new A.I. system lets you detect skin cancer by just using a smartphone app. Also, it is said that the system has 95% accuracy in detecting the disease which is quite accurate for a machine.
This app, named SkinVision, lets you detect the most common forms of skin cancer with great accuracy as well. However, we must also say that no system can be 100% accurate so you should not panic if you see anything detected in the app. It is always better to take opinion from your nearest physician or an expert. That being said, we will now talk about how SkinVision works and how it detects the disease.
The app tells you to snap a photo of concerning spots on your skin using the smartphone camera. Thus, if you don’t have any concerning spot then you need not try this app at all. This app, within 30 seconds of submitting a photo, gives you a risk assessment which ranges from low, low with symptoms or high. If the app shows that risk assessment is low with symptoms or high, you can consult an expert on steps to be taken further.
Since this app is available on both iOS and Android, you can use it on different platforms too. As we mentioned earlier, SkinVision does not provide you with the diagnosis or treat your disease but it just tells you that something is wrong. This is what SkinVision’s spokesperson also said when he told DigitalTrends that “Our service does not formally provide a diagnosis, but instead a risk assessment and recommendation,”
