We have seen that Google Assistant has been gaining more powers by each passing day. Now, we have just learnt that a new ability has been added to Google Assistant. This is the ability to read messages from third-party applications such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack and others.

Not only can Google Assistant read those messages, it can also reply to them. While you might be aware that replying to WhatsApp messages was already possible on Google Assistant, it was a tedious task.

That task has now been made much simpler with this latest update. Prior to this, Google Assistant was able to read your SMS messages and dictate them to you as well. The similar thing can now be possible with applications such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, GroupMe, Slack and more. You can also dictate your reply and Google Assistant will send it as a message.

This feature comes in handy when you are driving and you want to reply to a message quickly. For this feature to be activated, you just need to tell your Google Assistant to “read my messages”. As always, you will have to give access to your notifications for this feature to be set up.

However, it should be obvious that an image, video or audio file will not be read. Basically, you will have to open the app manually if there is a media file sent to you. But it can also be said that media files are not something you need to read urgently so it makes sense.

Also, reports say that the feature has already rolled out to many Google Assistant-enabled devices around the world. However, only some of the users were able to try this feature out. Thus, it can be understood that the feature is rolling out slowly and will reach your device soon.
