Google Launches Squoosh: A Tool To Convert And Optimize Images

google launches squoosh app

As the connections progress, so does the size of the web pages, something that can lead to a slow and somewhat exasperating experience. Google wants to help developers and page designers to reduce the size of the images they upload to their websites, and for that, they have just launched a new tool that they have called Squoosh.

Works without an Internet connection or install anything

In this way, it will not be necessary to resort to image editing tools to reduce and optimize the files that we will upload to a website. One of the positive points is that we can use it even if we do not have an Internet connection: once we have loaded it we will have the opportunity to continue executing it from the browser.

Below we can see a demo that shows how Squoosh works, how easy it is to use this tool and how the change in image quality is almost imperceptible: It’s great that Squoosh can work without needing a connection or installing anything locally.

The operation is very simple: first, we will have to upload the image that we want to process, choose the parameters and download it again to our team. Squoosh supports, among others, JPG, WebP, OptiPNG, MozJPG and PNG files. It also allows us to change the size, reduce the number of colors (thus weigh less) or the percentage of compression.

We have tried it and it works really well. In most cases, images occupy a third of what they originally weighed and there is no change in quality.
