Facebook’s new AI research Creates Eye for Closed Eye Pictures

There is no doubt that the future is full od Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Reality. There are many companies including Facebook are in continuous AI research and introducing some interesting technologies.

Recently Facebook is in the news for its new AI Research result, which is an eye-opening tool for closed eyes. Facebook huge deposit of people photos than in any other service. Over 2.19 billion monthly active users, Facebook has huge people database.

There are many image editing tools available on the Internet, but many needs some workout before adding an effect to the image. Some tools need professional skills, while some need basic knowledge of image editing skills. Closed eye is a most common problem while taking pictures. To solve this issue in a much simpler way, Facebook AI team created an eye-opening tool, which simply opens closed eyes in the pictures.

With deep learning, we can train layers of the system individually and develop a hierarchy of layers with more complex understanding, from edges of objects to full objects to scenes. Deep learning methods can also be applied to image generation. Instead of having a neural network that takes an image and tells you whether it’s a dog or an airplane, it does the reverse: It takes a bunch of numbers that describe the content and then generates an image accordingly.

Facebook with the help of GAN (General Adversarial Network) which is a machine learning system created an “in-painting” technique. This technique has the possibility of recreating eyes for a picture with closed eyes.

In GAN a part of the program is dedicated for recognizing faces and another part of the system repeatedly creates images. This machine uses images and feedback from the recognition and continuously updates its performance till the perfection.

GAN Image Recognition

The development is still in progress and we can see some sample pictures of the in-painting technique. This technique also creates an eye for goggle wearing persons.

That’s all for now. Please do share your valuable comments below.
