Google Maps redesign

We have seen that Google Maps has been a very popular platform similar to other things that Google has made so far. However, we have seen that it is not an area where there is no competition because we do have Apple Maps, Microsoft’s Bing Maps as well as other things but the closest to come is Apple Maps only and that too is lagging behind a lot.

Talking about the same, we have seen that the Google Maps platform has got some visual refreshes so far but they are related to the UI and switch to material design.

But now, we have a new update to Google Maps which is not just a visual refresh to the UI but also an update to the maps itself. Google says that the new Maps will “make it easier to distinguish between natural features in the environment, whether they’re mountainous ice caps, deserts, beaches, or dense forests.

They add that the “new maps will be available in the 220 countries and territories currently supported by Google Maps, from the biggest metropolitan areas to small, rural towns.”

Basically, what it means is that Google Maps will now show a lot more greens and the water is shown in a darker blue than earlier. Apart from that, you can where there are greens, valleys, water bodies etc in more detail which was not shown earlier.

You will be surprised to see that the new Google Maps will now show a lot more detail for places that it did not show any details and just plain green before. Google adds that the rollout of these new details will be starting next week and that users will have to “zoom-out” in order to see those differences. Because the street view is getting minor changes but the bigger ones will be seen in the overview where a whole city or country can be seen.
