Google is planning to digitalize the driving license in your smartphone

We all carry the driving license in the wallet or in the car or bike we drive. In some case, if we forget the driving license while in a hurry? Yes, it is a nightmare for everyone. Driving License is one of the important things to carry when we go outside.

Now the Google wants to solve the issue by digitalizing the driving license which stores as a digital ID on your Android smartphone. This is a big step ahead for making everything digital including currency and certificates to simplify life. Having a physical copy is easy to carry, the digitalized copies of the proofs are much easier to carry. All you need is a supported Android device.

According to the XDA developers, Google is working on an API named “IdentityCredentialAPI” which will help as a digital wallet for your documents. The API will allow you to add the documents including driving license on Android smartphone. The framework will help them to authenticate using the fingerprint scanner, retina scanner or password.

It is expected that the future version of Android which is named as R will come with the “IdentityCredentialAPI”. The hardware also must support the secure storage of the driver licenses even when the device doesn’t have enough power to boot Android.

For the safety of the digital license, Google is working on two types of data authentication, which are static an dynamic. The dynamic authentication is nearly impossible to crack without your permission. Also, to show your digital license on the Android to a cop, you need to establish a wireless connection via NFC, then only the license can be displayed on the cop’s smartphone. So, it is a 2-way technology where and license holder and receiver has to use the supported hardware packed Android device.
