Lenovo, out of all the other laptop manufacturers, has shown a prototype which gets us excited about the future of Laptops and Desktops. In an event last night, Lenovo unveiled a foldable-laptop. This laptop will come in the ThinkPad X1 series which already has the likes of ThinkPad X1 Carbon and X1 Extreme as its flagships.

Although it is just a prototype of what a foldable laptop could like, it is still pretty great to see. Lenovo, in its announcement, said that it runs an Intel processor but its specifications are not revealed yet. Also, Lenovo says that the laptop runs on Windows. But it is not clear if it runs Windows 10 or not.

Lenovo also says that the release date of this laptop will be somewhere in “2020” but nothing specific has been known. Also, Lenovo has obviously not revealed the price of this foldable laptop. And it is expected as well because the foldable tech is still new so the price could not be guessed at the moment.

Coming to the details of this foldable laptop, Lenovo’s prototype comes with a 13.3-inch OLED display made by LG. It also has a resolution of 1920 x 1440 pixels. One thing to note, however, is that the entire 13.3-inch display of the laptop is also where the keyboard normally sits. So practically, we have only half of the 13.3-inch screen as the viewing area.

Lenovo has revealed that this prototype was being worked on for the last 3 years. Also, both the halves of this laptop have batteries which means the weight distribution is even. This laptop can also fold at any angle up to 180 degrees via a hinge.

As for ports, this Lenovo ThinkPad prototype will have two USB Type-C ports and an IR camera for facial recognition. Lenovo also took a jibe at Samsung saying that its foldable laptop does also have a protective layer. But they are not so foolish as to leave the seams of this layer visible for everyone to see and peel off accidentally.
