Quora has just made an announcement today morning which will not make its users happy. This announcement is related to a security breach that took place on Quora. Yes, Quora was hacked by some unknown hackers last week and it is found out that they stole user data as well. According to the company’s official estimates, up to 100 Million user accounts were compromised in this hack. The stolen data includes the names, email address as well as passwords of this accounts. However, you can breathe a sigh of relief as the passwords were already encrypted.

Thus, there is an extremely less chance that hackers got access to your account as password decryption is really tough. Apart from that, Quora CEO revealed that the company found out that the hack took place last Friday. Hackers got unauthorized access to one of the systems on Quora. But this was enough to steal the user data. On the other hand, the company has already started investigating this security breach. Also, efforts have already been made to prevent this hack from happening again in the future.

You must also be wondering if your account was breached or not. For this, there can not be a simple answer as no information is available yet. However, you can be on the safe side by immediately changing your account’s password. Apart from that, you are also advised to not use the same passwords on different platforms. If you have done so, change the passwords as soon as possible. Quora has also informed that they believe the root cause of hack has been found out and they are working on a quick fix for this breach.

Quora also adds that no partner’s financial information was compromised other than Stripe’s access token which was “temporarily compromised”. But Quora has confirmed with Stripe that the access tokens were not used since the hack in an unauthorized manner.
