Microsoft is majorly known for its popular OS, Windows, worldwide. However, the company also has various other popular products such as Xbox, Outlook and more. Talking about Outlook, Microsoft has revealed a serious issue if you are an Outlook user. The company has said that it found out hackers might have accessed some Outlook users’ accounts. This is because Microsoft found out that one of Outlook support agent’s credentials were stolen. This made the hackers get access into Outlook users accounts easily.
Now, the company says that it is possible some hackers might have entered Outlook users accounts. However, it is not possible for them to have gained details such as credentials of users. Although, Microsoft does acknowledge that hackers might have seen your email addresses, subject-line of emails and folders created in the account.
This information was available to us as Microsoft started sending a letter to Outlook users. In this, Microsoft revealed about this breach and that it has been rectified. Microsoft says that the account which was compromised has now been banned. So that no more account access is possible for the said hackers. But it must be noted that the company itself acknowledges the account was accessed from January 1 to March 28, 2019.
Revealing the fact that your Outlook account might have been tracked from last several months. The company says that there is no threat to your account but you should change your passwords for additional security. As we know, support agents can access accounts but they do not have user passwords. So there is nothing to worry as claimed by Microsoft.
The company also says that they have taken this matter seriously. And for this reason, they have started an investigation internally into matter. Microsoft has not revealed data about how many accounts were accessed via this breach. However, some reports suggest that the breach could be much bigger than expected.
