We have seen that most of the smartphones this year from the likes of OnePlus, Xiaomi, Realme and others have launched with 48MP primary camera. While this is a great step forward for smartphone cameras, we are already seeing another milestone being achieved. Recently, Samsung announced 64MP as well as 108MP camera sensors as well. While we can say that 108MP camera smartphones will be coming next year, we can already see our first 64MP camera smartphone this month.

Yes, the first 64MP smartphone will be the Xiaomi’s Note 8 Pro launching in its Xiaomi Note 8 series. The company has officially announced that its Redmi Note 8 series will be launching on August 29. Also, the company has teased a quad-camera setup on the smartphone with a primary 64MP sensor. While it is not currently known whether both Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro will have a 64MP primary camera, the Pro variant is confirmed to have one. We expect the regular Note 8 to also have a 64MP triple-camera setup rather than a quad-camera one.

However, a major surprise from the Redmi Note 8 Pro teaser is the presence of a physical fingerprint sensor on the back of this device. While we know that the current trend is of placing an in-display fingerprint scanner, we also know that they are not as fast as physical ones. Therefore, it also makes sense that Xiaomi is going on that route. In addition, we have not seen people preferring in-display sensors over physical ones. Thus, the move to have a physical sensor could gain a lot of attention to Xiaomi.

One surprise, however, is that Xiaomi could launch the Redmi Note 8 with a gaming-centric MediaTek Helio G90T processor. Considering the fact that this will be the first MediaTek-powered Redmi Note from Xiaomi, the company is going to get a lot of flak if the performance suffers.
