This AI system allows a paralyzed person to ‘handwrite’ with his mind

One thing you must remember in today’s age is that computers have become extremely fast and advanced. We can say that the things we can’t even imagine have now become a reality with the help of mobile computing. Also, we have artificial intelligence which is turning people’s dreams into reality and giving them new hope in life. Yesterday, we reported about an AI system which would scan your face and tell employers if you are fit for the job or not. Now, a new AI system has been developed which is outstanding in what it can do.

The AI system we are talking about is a godsent for the paralyzed people as it claims to let paralyzed people ‘handwrite’ what they are thinking. As we all know, the things we say or write are first running in our mind which come out with the movement of our mouth or hands. However, it is sad that paralyzed people who can have the sharpest of minds can’t use their hands to write. So we are not able to know what is going through their minds.

With this technique, electrodes planted in the parts of brain of a paralyzed person will allow them to move their hands and select letters on the screen which match their thoughts. Now, it is obvious that they would not form a complete sentence and it will be broken which is hard to understand for normal people. However, the AI system can generate a complete sentence from selected letters with a 95% accuracy. With more practice, the researchers say that the speed of generating a sentence with the system will increase which is at 66 characters per minute right now. If this system is developed further and the accuracy, as well as speed, improves then this is definitely going to be a game-changer in understanding what paralyzed people are trying to say.
