TikTok blocked by Google on Indian Play Store due to Court order

TikTok banned in India

TikTok banned in India

TikTok, formally known as Musically, has been a sensation from last few years worldwide. Although the app started from China, it has caught up in popularity all over the world. However, many feel that the application is extremely cringe-worthy. Basically, TikTok is an application where users record videos and add background music or other sounds to it. At the end, the videos should look funny which is the motto of TikTok users. But some of the videos really make you rethink your decision of being on the platform.

TikTok, developed by China’s Bytedance technology, was under the scanner from Madras High Court. South Tamil Nadu’s Court ruled that TikTok be banned. Later, this ban was challenged in the Supreme Court of India. But there was bad news for TikTok’s creators as India’s premiere court refused to reverse the ban. This means that the app was ordered to be banned all over India.

Now, as a part of this order, Google has blocked TikTok from its Indian Play Store. This means you can no longer download TikTok from Google Play Store on Android. Although downloading the apk file from Internet is possible, it is nowhere as easy as downloading it from the Play Store. Therefore, this is expected to be a major blow to TikTok’s growth in India.

Also, ByteDance has realized the same and the company says that they have faith in India’s judicial system. Supreme Court of India’s decision to not stay the ban on TikTok is also justified. The Court said that TikTok is found to be promoting pornography which is why the ban was instated. Now, IT Ministry of India has already requested both Apple and Google to block TikTok from their respective Stores. In our inspection, TikTok was not found on both the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
