Tumblr has made a big announcement for content related to its platform. In this announcement, Tumblr has decided to ban all the Adult content from its platform from now on. The reason for this is that Tumblr is now a major website operating from last 10 years. Therefore, they have more responsibilities now than they had when they started. So, Tumblr wants to cater to all types of audience and banning Adult Content will let parents be safe about their kids on Tumblr.

If you are unaware about Tumblr, it is a micro-blogging site similar to Twitter. Tumblr was founded way back in 2007 and there has been a steady increase in their traffic since then. However, it must be said that Tumblr has not boomed by any means same as Facebook or Twitter. One difference between Tumblr and other micro-blogging sites is that Tumblr has always allowed Adult Content whereas others have not. But Tumblr is now joining in this party too.

There have been attempts made by Tumblr to provide a safe mode for kids on their platform. However, this attempt failed as Tumblr app was removed from the Apple App Store last week. The reason being that its filtering system inadvertently allowed some child pornography to appear on the social network. Tumblr CEO said that as the website has grown over the years, their responsibilities have also increased towards “different age groups, demographics, cultures, and mindsets”. So, the company has decided to ban all type of Adult Content from December 17 onwards.

The CEO added that “We spent considerable time weighing the pros and cons of expression in the community that includes adult content. In doing so, it became clear that without this content we have the opportunity to create a place where more people feel comfortable expressing themselves,”. “Bottom line: There are no shortage of sites on the internet that feature adult content. We will leave it to them and focus our efforts on creating the most welcoming environment possible for our community.”
