Now, we have a new issue which is reportedly caused on Android devices too. This issue is regarding the Twitter app for Android. Twitter users running Android have reported that their private tweets are being exposed. It should be clear that the tweets which are marked private should not be available publicly. However, the users are reporting that their private tweets since 2014 are exposed.
This issue is reportedly caused by a bug present on the Twitter app for Android. It should be noted that the issue has already been acknowledged by Twitter. The company has also issued a statement and claim that the issue is fixed now. The company clarified that the issue is caused when users changed their settings such as email address. This caused the “Protect your Tweets” setting to be disabled.
As this setting was disabled, all the tweets were made public for these users. According to the official statement from Twitter, “You may have been impacted by this issue if you had protected Tweets turned on in your settings, used Twitter for Android, and made certain changes to account settings such as changing the email address associated with your account between November 3, 2014, and January 14, 2019.”
It is also worth noting that the issue was not found on Twitter for web or iOS users. Therefore, you do not need to worry if you are either of those users. Twitter has also issued an apology to the users affected by this bug. Moreover, the company says they have notified users who were affected by this and have re-enabled their privacy settings.
