WhatsApp users complain about their older chats being deleted automatically, company acknowledges

WhatsApp bug

WhatsApp bug

WhatsApp users have been complaining lately about a weird bug that they are facing. Some users are facing an issue where their older chats are no longer available. This issue was found out by users on WhatsApp who tried to search for their old chats. However, the chats were nowhere to be found as the chats got deleted. But the users claim that the chats got deleted automatically without their knowledge.

Now, this is a complicated issue and one that WhatsApp had to intervene on. Because we have found several users with the same issue ever since it has come to light. Seeing the proximity of the issue, WhatsApp has acknowledged this bug. The company says that it is due to a WhatsApp bug present on Android. The company has also assured that they are already “working on a fix”.

Getting back to the issue faced by users, the older messages received on WhatsApp by users are being deleted. The weird thing here is that the chats are getting deleted automatically. Therefore, any important chats which were present earlier are now unavailable.

WhatsApp users are also advised to take a backup of their chats. Now, we don’t know the cause of this bug present on WhatsApp for Android. WhatsApp has also not mentioned anything regarding the cause of this bug.

However, some users claim that this is due to the Google Drive announcement made by the company earlier. Last year, WhatsApp partnered with Google to have chat backups on Google Drive cloud storage. But the company also announced that they will start deleting older chat backups from WhatsApp.

The chat backups which were not updated from last 12 months will get deleted automatically. Now, may believe that this may have caused the deletion of older chat messages as the deletion is also happening on chats which are older than 1 year.
