Xiaomi has launched a new portable speaker in China called the Bluetooth Speaker C, a compact outdoor-friendly audio device priced at 269 yuan (around $40). The speaker is expected to go on sale on May 31, and it may arrive globally later under the Xiaomi Sound Play name.
Compact design with outdoor focus
The Xiaomi Bluetooth Speaker C is built for portability, measuring 63.4 x 69.5 x 201.1 mm and weighing 415g. It comes with a black finish, orange accents, and a soft silicone carrying strap, which makes it easier to carry during travel, outdoor activities, or casual use at home.
Xiaomi has also added a base-mounted LED ring that it calls a time tunnel 3D lighting system. Users can switch between constant, ripple, and beat-synced lighting modes, allowing the speaker to double as a small ambient lighting accessory.
Audio and connectivity features
Inside the speaker, Xiaomi has included an 18W full-range driver along with dual passive radiators. The company says this setup delivers a frequency response range of 75Hz to 20kHz and a signal-to-noise ratio of 95dB or higher, which should help the speaker produce clear sound for its size.
On the connectivity side, the speaker supports Bluetooth 6.0, which offers better stability, lower latency, and a wireless range of up to 25 meters. One of the standout features is Auracast multi-device connectivity, which allows multiple compatible devices to sync audio playback at the same time. Xiaomi also supports standard TWS mode, so two speakers can be paired for left and right stereo output.
IP68 protection and battery life
For outdoor use, the speaker carries an IP68 rating, meaning it is fully protected against dust and can survive water submersion. That makes it more suitable for outdoor gatherings, trips, and casual use in less controlled environments.
Battery life is rated at up to 14 hours from the 2600mAh battery, although Xiaomi notes that this figure is based on 40% volume and with the lighting effects turned off. As always, real-world battery performance may vary depending on volume, lighting mode, and usage conditions.
Xiaomi’s broader product push
The launch of the Bluetooth Speaker C comes shortly after Xiaomi introduced several other smart home products, including a 13kg washer dryer with electrolytic cleaning and HyperOS integration, as well as an AI-powered split air conditioner designed for rapid cooling. The new speaker fits into Xiaomi’s wider strategy of expanding its connected ecosystem across audio, home appliances, and smart devices.
Why it matters
At this price point, the Xiaomi Bluetooth Speaker C is positioned as an affordable portable speaker with a strong feature set. The combination of Auracast, IP68 durability, Bluetooth 6.0, and custom lighting makes it stand out in the budget-friendly outdoor speaker category.
If Xiaomi does bring it to global markets, the speaker could become an interesting option for users looking for a compact, durable, and modern Bluetooth speaker without paying premium pricing.
