What is Windows OS

What is Windows Operating System

Windows is an operating system founded by Microsoft which is one of the most recognized computer OS out there. It utilizes the GUI instead of the older command line interface. It’s hard to find a computer user who hasn’t tried Windows at least once. The navigation throughout the OS is incredibly easy, and the functions are capable of competing with other popular operating systems such as MacOS and Linux. The first version of the Windows was released on November 10, 1983, and it reached the Windows 10 which is the most recent version of the OS. In the long path, Microsoft introduced a significant number of versions including the evergreen Windows XP and the modern Windows 7.

Based on many researchers and internet persons, the most successful version of the Windows series was the Windows XP. The fun fact is that Even after a decade and half of the release on August 24, 2001, there are still a considerable amount of Windows XP users worldwide. Even the modern versions like Windows 7 and 10 hold the majority, the XP is still evergreen in numerous offices and word rooms.

If you ever wondered why the Windows is called “Windows,” here is the answer. Before the real GUI based Windows OS, Microsoft users used the MS-DOS which was a command line based OS. So, after implementing the GUI on their OS, they were able to produce multiple “windows” of programs in their OS. This later lead to naming their OS as Windows. Thanks for Bill Gates for such a single word and catchy name for the revolutionary OS.
