Working

To work with the feature, you need to download and install the latest nightly build of VLC available for both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows. You need to download the executable file and proceed with the installation.

After you have downloaded and installed the VLC, you need to make sure that Chromecast is activated. You need to connect the Chromecast to the HDMI port of your TV and turn on the Television. You need to locate the Chromecast by navigating to Video | Render | Scan. VLC will now scan for al the devices located near your Television. You need to select Video | Renderer | Your Chromecast. The VLC player will be connected to Chromecast.

You can now open a video file in VLC and select the Play button. You can either use the Media | Open File menu or drag and drop the video from your file manager to the VLC window. You should note that VLC has got better and provides support for drag and drop.

Activating Security

If you attempt to play the video, you will view an Insecure site promptly. Select View Certificate option to view the security certificate of your Google Chromecast device. Select Accept Permanently option to accept your Chromecast certificate. After you agree, the relevant video file will be played. You will be able to view the video on your Television being played directly from the VLC player.

You can make use of the controls in the VLC window to play, pause, fast forward, rewind and other playback related activities. Going forward, you can make use of the Video | Render menu to scan and establish connectivity. You will be able to play video files without accepting the certificate prompt.
