Before the official release of iPhone X, experts at Apple had predicted that it would hurt the sales of the available iPhone 8. This seems to be happening even as more customers wait until the preordering time of iPhone X starts in late October.
According to a report put forward by top Apple watcher and industry analyst firm KGI Securities, the existence of iPhone X may already be cutting into the preorders of iPhone 8. The preordering of iPhone 8 went live last weekend, and there is still a reasonable availability window of one to two weeks for all online orders.
Not Everything is Bad
KGI notes that a new iPhone typically jumps to six-week availability after the initial pre-order wave. Contrary to this statistic, the shipping time for iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus is currently one to two weeks. However, not everything is moving in the wrong direction since the same firm also notes that the sales of the Apple Watch Series 3 are doing far much better than expected.
KGI Securities and other leading iPhone distributors in European countries such as Broadband Choices believe that potential buyers are waiting for the iPhone X which may be available as late as November. With the phones expected to make a grand entry to the market, many people are waiting for them. The pre-orders placed explain all these.
The current trend indicates that more people are in demand of the Apple Watch Series 3 with cellular connectivity on board. According to further reports from KGI, the Apple watch series 3 with GPS and LTE is experiencing a more than projected pre-order demand. Currently, the shipping time of the GPS plus the cellular Apple Watch 3 is between three to four weeks while the shipping of the GPS alone takes between five to seven days.
The low sales of iPhone 8 can also be attributed to the impressive features that iPhone X offers. Some people would opt to wait for the iPhone X with rather impressive features than purchasing the readily available iPhone 8. Its impressive screen and an advanced camera tech are literally cannibalizing the sales of iPhone 8.
The time spacing between the two models from Apple was also reasonable which allowed customers to decide which of the two phones they need. Although iPhone X is slightly more expensive than iPhone 8, some customers believe that the price jump is still reasonable and affordable.
This isn’t a big surprise at all. Although iPhone X may be a little bit expensive, with a starting retail price of $999, customers believe that they would rather pay the extra money to own the latest Smartphone model with excellent and exciting features on board. Customers regard iPhone 8 as a mere incremental update of last year’s iPhone 7, with the two Smartphones having a similar design and almost same features.
No Restricted Supply of iPhone X
Ahead of the announcement from Apple indicating the launch of iPhone X, there were major concerns that the device wouldn’t meet the market demand. However, Apple hasn’t imposed any restrictions on the supply of the device, and it is expected that the Smartphone will be available for order in at least 55 countries by the end of October.
A Twitter poll conducted by analyst Gene Munster in which he sought to find out the general feeling towards the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 plus, and iPhone X showed undisputable result indicating that over 72 percent of the respondents preferred iPhone X over the others.
People who are waiting to purchase iPhone X will have to wait a little longer since the shipping time of the phone are meant to take a little bit longer than the usual three to six weeks.
Most people are still holding back since they understand that iPhone 8 will soon be out of Apple’s latest device list. There is a clear indication that the end of October will mark the beginning of the real iPhone rush as more people will be going for the iPhone X Smartphone.
