Apple iPhone X Review

Apple iPhone X Review

Apple iPhone X is a brand new smartphone from Apple, and it drew some controversy on it because of its price without no significant changes from the older models. Also, the technologies introduced with the iPhone X were already on other smartphones released years back. Apple is known to release some of the best smartphones on the market, that usually go head to head, and overtake most of the Android smartphones. But, is iPhone X a capable smartphone for doing so? Let’s find out.

iPhone X Design and Build Quality

As the 2017 approaches near its end, it’s a new trend to release bezel-less phones, so iPhone X took that into an account and implemented its design here. What can I say? The phone looks gorgeous! It has a very little bezel, no home button, and a glass back. As you can see, iPhone introduced some new stuff in design but kept the old design with the round shape and round edges. In terms of Build Quality, you’ll have the feeling of holding a premium flagship, which feels expensive, and it IS expensive. Stainless steel is the main material here, and the glass covering the back panel is very strong, although the phone is just around 175g heavy. iPhone X is a water-resistant phone, so expect some tight, solid build with no squeaking when squeezed and fantastic scratch-resistant glass, that will sustain scratches from your coins or keys.

Display

Apple ditched their old IPS panel for this new, Samsung-style OLED 5.8″ display. Wow, the effect is amazing! The screen is a little longer, but the width isn’t that big, so it’s very comfortable to use, even if you have really small hands like I do. Because of OLED technology, iPhone X has more saturated, vivid colors and the color reproduction is great. The brightness is top-notch, so you’ll be able to use it in a direct sunlight pretty comfortable. Resolution-wise, iPhone X continues the old trend of providing “non-conventional” solutions, like 1125×2436 pixels resolution, which sits comfortably between 1080p and 1440p, but is more aligned towards the second option. Generally, iPhone X has a fantastic screen, and definitely, the best screen iPhone ever had. With its 18:9 ratio, you can even watch most of the movies and series without black bars, which is a huge plus.

Apple iPhone X Camera

The camera is probably one of the main factors of iPhone smartphones. From my experience, every iPhone has a great camera, but what about iPhone X? To be honest, iPhone X really stepped up their game, by introducing a new dual 12 MP camera, capable of recording 4K videos at 24/30/60fps, and 720p video in 240fps, which looks great. Aside from that, iPhone introduced new Face ID technology, that allows you to unlock your phone by just looking at it, and from my experience, it works in 95% of the cases. The front 7MP camera, might not sound that impressive, but I was amazed at the quality of the selfies I’ve got from it, plus there is a support for portrait mode, which blurs the background and let your beauty shine in the center of the image.

The images are crystal-clear, sharp and provide good color reproduction. In the night, iPhone X camera still manages to deliver a great performance, and with its quad-LED flash, you’ll have a perfect lighting for almost all of your pictures. So, to wrap it up; iPhone X has a great camera, but I must say that the similar stuff is seen on some great Android phones too. For example, Galaxy S8 camera is pretty good, offering almost the same picture quality all-around. Nevertheless, it will not disappoint you.

Performance

Performance is where the new iPhone X shines. With the brand new iOS11.1 and Apple A11 Bionic CPU, this phone is BLAZING FAST! I have an impression that it sometimes reads my mind, as it’s so responsive. The second you click on a button you’ll see your selected stuff open; amazing! Apple iPhone X sports a three-core Apple GPU that is capable of running the most demanding games with ease. Although it has 3GB of RAM which is somewhat small for the price (more about that later), it provides an excellent multitasking experience.

Speaking of memory, it comes with 64GB or 256GB of internal memory. While 64GB is still a LOT of space, I would opt for 256GB, but it’s more expensive… much more! Why 256GB? Well, if you plan to record 4K videos and store them on your phone, the first solution is a bare minimum, since iPhone X doesn’t have an SD slot. Yeah… I’m mad about that again. Thanks, Apple, thanks for making my life harder. Furthermore, iPhone X misses my loved 3.5mm port, which is again a disappointment.

Battery

In the battery compartment, iPhone X doesn’t exactly shine with its Li-Ion 2716 mAh battery. Sure, it’s a lot of power but nothing too impressive. For the review, I tested the iPhone with heavy usage, streaming full HD YouTube videos, opening social media, gaming and similar, and I managed to get around 13 hours of enjoyment, which is generally acceptable.

iPhone X supports wireless charging and fast charging, which will bring you battery from the dead in just more than 2 hours. BUT, Apple decided to let the greed play the game, so you’ll need to pay more for the wireless charger, which is pretty nerve-wracking after you pay such a high price for this device. The battery performance isn’t more than average.

Verdict

At the end of the day, we all wait for that final word about iPhone X. Yes, it’s an amazing phone, with mind-blowing performance, and Apple really did their best for the design and the camera. But, would you pay $1000 for this phone? I know, me neither. It’s just too expensive, and here I’m talking about the simplest, 64GB version of the phone. It’s just too much, and that’s the fact that you can’t deny. Apple iPhone X is surely a fantastic smartphone, but not for the price. I’m good with my Android smartphone for now until Apple decides to stop being greedy and then I might consider buying an iPhone.
