Honor 7S Review

Honor 7S Review

Huawei is launching the best of the products this year. They have their best devices of the lineup lined up for each of their markets. Huawei wants to make sure that each and every product they launch must be selling like hot cakes. Honor 7S is another product in the 7 – series of devices and with this product, they want to carter the budget section user who is going to take entry to the smartphone market, although someone who needs a smartphone for pure usage will also take the Honor 7S for their daily usage.

There are a lot of downsides of the phone, and we are going to make sure that these downsides don’t result in the downfall of the device with the help of this review. Let us first have a look at the major downside of the device, which is the lack of fingerprint scanner, as this is going to just make it tough for the user to log into the device, as he will need to use the pin or the pattern method for security. This is not much of the issue. Now let us have a look at the performance, and other sections of the phone and see if it is going to be a deal breaker or not in especially with the competitive price tag.

Design & Build

At the first glance the phone looks like it is any other phone of 2018 i.e. it is built with metal, but it is not exactly the same case, this time Honor 7S comes with a plastic build which happens to have a deep metallic paint over the same. There are in total of three different colors available with Black, Gold, and Blue. On the front of the device, we have a total glass, while the surroundings of the display are quite bold and look blunt in 2018 being fully black.

When it comes to build quality as it is a plastic phone the phone does tends to bend a bit but not anything drastic. When it comes to placement of the placements, we have the single camera of the phone which is positioned horizontally on the top left side. The honor branding of the phone is exactly at the center of the back. On the front, we have Honor branding at the bottom of the phone, while on the top we have the front camera, notification LED, and the earpiece. Overall the design and build of the phone is quite good when it comes to the price factor of the device. Also, another great thing about the phone is the toughness that is due to the phone being the plastic body.

Display

We have a 5.45 inches Full View Display on the Honor 7S, the aspect ratio of the phone is 18:9 which is quite normal as per the 2018 trend in the mobile devices. This is another device in the market which comes with the latest trend and still is priced quite competitively. As the screen size of the phone is quite small hence we have the screen resolution of the display capped at just 720 x 1440 resolution. This is the usually known as a 720p+ resolution in the 18:9 aspect ratio.

In a real-world situation, this is not a typical display which you would like to see, but you can easily get to the habit of the same easily. The screen of the phone is quite good when it comes to the color reproduction and the usual set of color pallet, but at times you will get to know that there are few limited colors and those colors are going to restrict the images that you view, as they are going to be mixed and matched.

When you view the screen in the bright sunlight, you will face issues of fading of colors and the screen not copping up with the brightness, and same at night where you will have to strain your eyes to view the content being displayed on the screen of the phone.

Performance

Budget phones are not made to perform well in this segment, or we can say that this is the part which is compromised the most when you are choosing to make a budget smartphone. This phone like others is compromised in the same segment, here we get an MT6739 chipset which is a really budget chip coming from MediaTek, assisting the same is the 2GB of RAM that is going to help you to keep up with the multi-tasking work.

In the real world performance, the phone gets to lag pretty much in the early buds of a stress test, and it nips in the bud the thought to start using some heavy apps. The phone is quite good and makes it possible for us to stay connected with the internet / social media and our friends via SMS. Overall the phone is not meant for anything heavy and is for any person who looks for solely using the phone and no other nonsense work that is needed to be done via the unit.

Camera

The Honor 7S doesn’t get any fancy thing apart from the 18:9 aspect ratio display. Rest of the device is pretty much the same as you would get in 2016, as there is no dual camera setup available on the device to flaunt. On the back, we get a 13MP sensor while on the front it is a 5MP one. These are just the minimal specked unit that can be put on any device in 2018.

In the real world, the performance of the camera is quite adequate and you can easily see the phone struggling in different situations such as low lighting and nightlife. Although the colors and contrasts level of the phone were great, you would have clearly observed the phone getting in the tensed environment pretty early. Images by the phone are good for sharing on social media but are not that good to be compared by even an Oppo or a Motorola, as it is really from a bare minimum specs phone.

Battery

The phone gets a puny 3020 mAh battery which doesn’t get any type of fast charging that is the latest trend even in the budget phones. The phone does get a battery efficient chipset from MediaTek and for sure it will be helping the phone to stay a bit longer, as most of the times chip will run cool and relaxed. If you use the phone only for calling and other such work, you can easily get a full working day with the phone. But if you are some maniac and look for a social media device then this phone will need to be topped up by the end of the day once in order to keep it using till you sleep.

Verdict

Honor 7S is a great package for someone who is looking for a device with good specifications and at a price that everyone cannot afford. This is really a secondary phone or a primary phone for someone who just needs the basic smartphone functionality, if you fall into the category do get one without thinking.
