We have seen the latest (and possibly the best trend) in the smartphone industry from earlier this year which is to put a high refresh rate display on smartphones. Now, it is not new that high refresh rate displays are seen but they were only available on monitors. To see such displays on a smartphone is totally new and makes sense as well. The OEM which started this trend was Razer and Asus which launched their gaming phones. But we see that OnePlus has started to bundle high refresh rate displays on mainstream smartphones too.

Now, we are getting reports that Apple is also planning to launch its iPhone 12 series with 120Hz refresh rate displays. Talking about high refresh rates, we have a new report regarding Samsung’s Galaxy S11 series which is coming really soon. As per this latest report, Samsung is likely to include a 120Hz refresh rate display on the Galaxy S11. This means that we will have an upgrade from Samsung Galaxy S10/Note 10’s 60Hz directly to a 120Hz one.

At this point, this is just speculation based on the fact that there is a setting to switch between 60Hz and 120Hz refresh rate in the latest OneUI 2 Beta based on Android 10. Therefore, it is likely that such a high refresh rate is coming soon but we might see it on the Galaxy S11 itself. If not, we will most probably see it on the Galaxy Note 11 if that arrives. Because there were rumours Samsung might launch a Galaxy S series phone and a Galaxy Fold device only next year. Samsung’s options for the switch between 60Hz and 120Hz allows you to keep any refresh rate or even switch dynamically between two based on the screen content. Also, you should note that for increasing the refresh rate, you need dedicated hardware so it is likely that the setting will only be used for new devices.
