We live in such era where the Internet rules the world, especially if we talk about social media websites and apps. We’ll leave that topic for another time, and talk more about social media apps like Instagram. I know that you probably use Instagram, as it’s fairly small and simple app, and it’s easy to post your photos and videos, but read the first sentence again. Social media apps are widely used in the world and if you happen to not like Instagram, well you’ll be happy that we prepared a special list of 10 best Instagram alternative apps. The only thing you’ll need is an Android smartphone. Let’s start.
1. Facebook
Facebook is the oldest social media website, counting millions of active users on daily basis. And yes, it has more options than Instagram, with a fair share of options for privacy and other stuff, but it’s less popular than Instagram at the moment. Here, you can upload your photos, videos or status updates, and edit some basic and advanced info of yourself. Facebook is also great for finding a job or earn money via marketing, so it’s a way better tool than Instagram for that. The only downside is that it’s less popular and it takes a little more space on your storage, but the bigger size comes with bigger possibilities.
2. Twitter
Twitter wasn’t that popular at the time, but with few updates, it became the staple of social networking. Twitter embraced the principle of work that Instagram has, long before it. It has the option for following Twitter users, liking posts, using hashtags and so-called Tweeting or Retweeting, which means that you can post your photo, video or status update or Retweet it from somebody else. Twitter is also available and I’ll recommend it to you if you want to have a lot of fun, as it’s best for following celebrities and news services.
3. Flickr
Flickr is a somewhat similar app to Instagram, offering a basic feature of uploading your photos and videos, and it can serve as a great cloud service website for that matter. Do you want to share your photos public? No problem, you can do that too, so people can interact with your photos. It’s not fancy as Instagram and doesn’t allow for broadcasting live videos or posting stories, but hey, you can upload full-size photos; take that, Instagram!
4. Google+
Google+ is that app on your smartphone that you always turn your back too. Don’t ask me how I know it. But, it’s actually a pretty decent app, allowing you to have interaction with the other Google+ users. Its primary function is to share photos, and you can even choose the topic regarding your photo and share it there, or like the other people’s photos if you want to. Again, it’s not fancy as Instagram but it’s easy to use and it has an integration with Google Photos.
5. Imgur
Imgur is probably the most popular website for sharing photos at the moment. However, Imgur doesn’t have the filtering, which means that you can post the photos regarding any topic and sometimes graphical content. However, it’s a great app and will let you upload an unlimited number of photos, as well as explore the other user’s random photos, which is great. You can find unlimited wallpapers, funny content, pictures, and memes here, so it’s a ton of fun.
6. Snapchat
If there’s an app that could possibly dethrone Instagram, that’s Snapchat. Snapchat is the main rival to Instagram and allows for sending messages to other users using photos and videos. You can also upload stories here, and they’ll last for 24 hours, just like on Instagram. For those who are photo-maniacs, there are numerous filters and features, but the downside is that your content isn’t permanently uploaded. You’ll need to try it (for free) to really tell how good this app is, and you can do it by downloading it from the link below. Happy Snapchating!
7. Snapseed
I know what first came to your mind when reading this, and no; Snapseed isn’t similar to Snapchat. Snapseed is owned by Google and it’s also one of the main rivals to the Instagram, owned by Facebook. However, there is a catch… unfortunately. This app won’t allow you to easily share your photos as it’s not in collaboration with any social media website, so you’ll have to use some of the apps from the list to do so. BUT, what they offer is a ton of filters, features and other options for editing your photos. It’s also regarded as one of the best, free photo editors at the moment.
8. Pinterest
We can discuss if Pinterest is really a social media app or not, as it doesn’t follow the same, traditional way of the other social media apps, but it doesn’t matter really. What matter is that Pinterest is a great app for uploading pictures of a variety of things and discuss it with the other users. It’s best if you use it for topics like fashion, food or something similar.
9. Mastodon
What a great name for an app, Mastodon! However, it’s not powerful like a mastodon, as it’s a fairly new social media service. Well, there isn’t anything special to say about it. You can do stuff that you normally do on a social media service, like posting photos, videos, status updates, and stuff, and the main downside is that there still aren’t that many people, however, that small community is pretty interesting, from what I saw. Not a bad alternative to Insta. Take note that its name is now changed to TootyFruity, to avoid confusion.
10. Tumblr
Tumblr also takes advantage of hashtags, which you can use to describe the videos, photos or text posts, or search for other posts from Tumblr users. It’s a great alternative to Instagram, although not that powerful like that app. However, Tumblr will let you do anything with your profile, in terms of customization, as well as create your own GIFs, which is an awesome feature! Download it for free in the link below and enjoy it.
So, when you wanted to get out of Instagram, be sure to move to any of these apps.
