10 Best Ad Blocker Extensions for Chrome

Best Ad Blocker Extensions for Chrome

Chrome is one of the most, if not the most popular web browser you can download for free, mainly because it’s fast, looks gorgeous and for its overall performance, although it tends to use more RAM. However, whatever browser you are using, you are likely to experience some annoyances like ads, popups, and other stuff, that can decrease your browsing experience.

Popular Ad Blocker Extensions for Google Chrome

Thankfully, there are ad blocker extensions you can add to your selected browser and get rid of those annoying ads, blocking the half or the whole screen, that can sometimes be malicious! Let’s not waste time, and quickly jump to 10 best ad blocker extensions for Chrome.

1. AdBlock Plus

If you are using Chrome, and your ad blocker extension, I can bet that that is probably AdBlock Plus. This extension works really well, blocking all of the annoying ads and making sure that your PC is secure from malicious software, that can be transferred to your PC via those ads. Aside from that, AdBlock Plus can easily be manipulated by turning on or off some filters, like malware and social media buttons. It can also be turned off easily, as it will appear in the upper right corner; just click on the icon and click on ‘Enabled on this site’ to turn it off, or on. A simple, and brilliant piece of software!

2. uBlock Origin

uBlock Origin is my second favorite ad blocker of all time! It’s simple, works well and it’s super fast when detecting and blocking annoying ads. It can block every type of ads, from popups to those who just take over your screen or appear behind the tab you are using, or in the corner of the screen. You name it; this good boy will fix everything for you. It’s also customizable, which means that you can create lists of blocked and allowed websites, for easier blocking of spam content.

3. Social Fixer

Social Fixer is a great tool for blocking ads, but it also serves as some sort of filter. As its name says, it’s best used on social media, where you can find tons of annoying ads and you simply want to throw them away. Well, no problem! Social Fixer will to that for you, and on top of that, you can now filter various news on Facebook, and see only those you are interested in. It will surely enhance your browsing experience.

4. AdBlock

Not to be confused with AdBlock Plus, AdBlock is a totally different extension, which can offer you a similar experience to the aforementioned app. It works in a traditional manner, blocking all of the annoying content, where you can add your list to block even more websites or particular content on the website. There is also a whitelist, where you can add your favorite websites, so they don’t accidentally get blocked, which is a cool thing.

5. HTTPS Everywhere

HTTPS Everywhere is a creation from the developers of Tor and EFF. This extension works by encrypting your online browsing and rewriting HTTP link requests to HTTPS. This means not only that you’ll block annoying content, but also be redirected to a secure version of the particular website. So, guess what? No more ads and no more malware; bingo! You can also download it for Firefox and Opera, and of course, for free.

6. Pocket

Aside from blocking annoying content (ads) and keeping your browsing safe and sound, Pocket has other possibilities. For example, if you are a passionate reader, you can save the articles for offline and read them later, which I used often. Other than that, Pocket will work really well even on slower PCs, and will not make your browsing slower. If you are up for a much simpler solution, then Pocket is awesome.

7. Silent Site Sound Blocker

I can’t imagine more annoying ads and content than some random video popping up and start playing in the middle of a website. It’s even worse if you have your speakers cranked up, which can lead to some jump scares. Well, Silent Site Sound Blocker is here to block these ads, and videos that have sound in them. It’s useful when you have more than few tabs opened and you don’t know where the sound is coming from, as it blocks the sound from the tabs that you aren’t focused on. You can also add blacklist or whitelist, where you can permit or forbid some of the content and that’s cool.

8. ScriptSafe

ScriptSafe is another cheap solution for blocking annoying ads and it works really simple. Aside from the classic ad blocking, it will offer you a feature to create your own list of websites that you use and choose whether or not it’s allowed. You can also select Trust or Distrust, depending on the website, so you can either block or allow the content. It’s a very cool extension, and I’m sure you’ll like it.

9. Disconnect

If you didn’t know, online advertisers use various tools to track your online habits and then use that to display you the ads based on your needs. Well, Disconnect is going to keep those people away. Like every entry on our list, Disconnect also offers a creation of whitelists and blacklists, to block ads or some content that you don’t like. This is great for safety on the internet, as you can block websites containing mature or graphical content if you share your PC with children.

10. Ghostery

Like Disconnect, Ghostery is also here to provide you with a safe and comfort internet browsing by blocking all of the promotional ads and social media trackers. Ghostery also has a very big database, so it will work on every website that you can imagine, not to speak about those most popular that you are probably using. It’s highly customizable, so you can now do your own stuff with it, create blacklists, exceptions, block cookies and similar. It’s up to you how you utilize its possibilities.
