Huawei has been coming up with some great packages in the recent past. One such package is in the form of Honor 7A. Honor brand is the mobile division of Huawei and all the mobile devices are launched under the division. The Honor 7A was launched in 2018 and is a good package in terms of specifications let us have a look if it is well capable in the real world in the review ahead,
Design and Build Quality
Honor 7A comes with an all metal design at the back. At the back, we get iPhone 7 Plus style single camera with a single tone flash. In the center, we get the fingerprint scanner which is positioned a bit to the top. On the bottom, we get Honor branding. Both on the top and at the bottom, we get rubber antenna bands for better receptions. On the front, we get the 18:9 ratio display with minimal bezels to the side. On the top, we get the front camera and the sensors with the earpiece, while on the bottom chin we get the Honor branding.
Overall the phone looks good and in the Blue color it looks premium and feels good. Although the device is on the bigger side with the 5.7” display still it is comfortable to hold in hand and the ergonomics of the device falls on the better hand.
The Honor 7A comes with an 18:9 ratio display which is sized at 5.7 – inches. The downside of the phone is about the resolution which is maxed at just HD+ which is a bit low as per today’s standards. The lower resolution of the screen makes the text and icons noticeable at a bit softer side. Although the panel used is great with great brightness levels. There are no issues in color reproduction and contrast. Although the viewing angles are not so great and hence at times there can be issues of legibility.
Watching media on the phone is not affected much, and we do get additional features with the phone to hide the black bars on the phone due to the increased ratio. Also, one major thing to note is about the YouTube app which gets only 480p quality videos at max due to the resolution of the screen. Hence you will not be able to use the full resolution of the phone at least on YouTube.
The phone comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 430 chipset which is one of the best chipsets in the price range. The phone comes with three different options which are 32GB + 3GB RAM, 32GB + 2GB RAM, 16GB + 2GB RAM. These options don’t sound intimating and does indicates that the phone is going to have a hard time running most of the applications.
Although the phone is capable of handling the basic of apps which are meant for social media and normal daily calling. Although if you are looking for having a phone with which you can do casual gaming then this phone is not for you.
Honor 7A lacks the performance which you might need for gaming, still you will be able to run some of the normal games on the phone such as Subway Surfer and Temple Run. Although heavy games such as Asphalt 8 and PUB-G are going to have a hard time with the device. It is better to be used as a daily driver for calling and social media usage.
Multi-tasking on the phone is not possible for most of the work, still, you will be able to have at a max of 3 – 4 applications in memory. The phone comes overlaid with EMUI 8.0 on top of Android 8.0 Oreo, the custom UI also plays a major role in the capability of the phone.
Honor 7A rocks 13 MP sensor as the primary camera at the back which is assisted with a 2MP depth sensor which is having no autofocusing capabilities. The primary camera has an f-stop of 2.2 which is good enough for a budget smartphone. The phone comes with a single tone flash which is another downside for the device. On the front, we have an 8MP sensors which have an f-stop of 2.0 which is again accompanied by a LED Flash for better low light images.
Both the front and rear cameras produce respectable pictures which are punchy enough to be used on social media. The images at times tend to be a bit on a softer side. Contrast and color reproduction is good but at times there is an issue with color temperature which you can keep a check with the embedded manual mode of the camera.
The phone comes packed with a 3000 mAH non-removable battery. The battery is capable of running the device whole day long without any issue. Although if you are a heavy user you might need to top up the device at the end of the day or by 7:00 or 8:00. While for a normal user the phone will suffice the day long with around 25 – 30 percent battery left at the end of the day.
Do note that the battery life will be affected by your usage of camera, social media, web browser, video player and other aspects. For calling only the phone was able to suffice for more than 2 days, hence the performance will be affected as per the usage of the person.
