Oppo has been releasing some of the best marvels produced by them. The Oppo F9 Pro was launched alongside the Oppo R17, both the devices come with almost same design on the front. It is not the same story on the back, we have a dual camera unit but placed a bit differently. On the back, we have the fingerprint scanner which is not the case with the Oppo R17, but today we are not here for a comparison but for a review. Review of the Oppo F9 Pro, we will be having a look at how much does the device makes its way to the Pro lineup devices.
Design & Build
Talking about the front glass of the phone it is in 6.3 – inches in size and this makes the device a tall device of the era. Just like the other device this one also on the front comes with a uniquely shaped notch on the display, and on the bottom, we have a bit of bezel. When it comes to the back of the phone there is an oval shaped fingerprint scanner, a dual camera setup which is towards the top left of the device, OPPO is written on the back in the center.
This device happens to have a unibody metal design with the glass slab on the front. The unibody metal design gives the phone a sturdy feel. The phone’s aluminum has a unique pattern and this makes it feel quite good.
Display
The front glass of the phone protects a preciously important component of the phone. The selfie camera and the display. This phone comes with an IPS LCD Display which is of 6.3 – inches in size. It comes with a ratio of 19.5:9 and this gives the display a really tall appearance. Talking about the colors they appear to be quite good, and the overall look of the phone is enhanced by the contrast ratio of the display. It being an IPS LCD panel it comes with a great amount of contrast and also has quite a lot of vibrancy in the images produced by the phone.
The display of the phone is quite good when it comes to the brightness as you can easily view the display even in bright sunlight and when it comes to the low light usage the screen won’t be much of issue as it can go really dull. The viewing angles on the phone are even better and it makes a great combination for the display as there are no color shifts on the panel. Oppo recently has been using some great panels for their devices to make them stand out. Also, the phone has a custom UI and that enables the customer to customize the appearance of the screen according to the user’s preference.
Performance
On the performance front, we have the phone loaded with the Helio P60 which is the top of the line performance chipset from MediaTek. The Helio P60 from MediaTek is accompanied by the Mali G72MP3 which is a great GPU available for the mobile devices. The phone currently runs on Android Oreo and soon is said to be upgraded to Android Pie where the performance of the phone will increase. On the memory front, we have 64GB internal storage and 6GB RAM.
When it comes to real-world performance the phone performs excellent both in multi-tasking performance and in single hardcore tasks such as gaming. During gaming, the phone tends to heat a bit and even there are a couple of drop frames which might be due to optimization issues which might be fixed in a couple of updates. Overall the phone does a great job in the day to day usage scenarios.
Camera
There is a dual camera set up at the back while on the front we have a single camera within a notch on the back we have a 16MP sensor which is the primary lens having an aperture of f/1.8 and assisted by Phase Detect Auto Focus. Another camera on the phone is a 2MP sensor which is actually used for in-depth sensing. Talking about the front snapper it is a 25MP unit with f/2.0 aperture. Talking about the Camera UI it is more or less like you would find on an Apple device, It has all the modes on to the bottom, and there is a settings page. Overall the camera works great and has quite a few gizmos loaded into it.
Pictures from both the units turn out to be quite great and hence there is no need for any extra processing over the photos. They have a good amount of saturation with a good amount of vibrancy in the photos. Even the pictures have a good heft in it in terms of color reproduction. The rear camera has an AI-enabled system which will be making the bokeh effect, and these effects will, in turn, help you to take some of the DSLR like effects. The same is embedded inside the front camera with AI and it works brilliantly well in most of the situations.
Battery
The phone is offered with a Non-Removable Lithium Polymer 3500 mAh battery. The unit on the phone is a great advantage from the Oppo. The phone is enabled to be working for upwards of 1 & ½ days when used with intelligence.
The phone works great when you are using the phone on normal settings from 100% of battery to 60% of battery, after that you must make the phone on Power Saving mode which will work really great till 20% and after that you must put the Battery on to Ultra Power Saving Mode and with these settings and constant calls coming on to the device you can make the device work for more than a day. If you are a maniac and want to game on the phone then the power efficient MediaTek chip will help your device to make it at least 2 to 3 hours which is quite respectable when gaming for a long time.
Verdict
The Oppo F9 pro is quite a good device and performs quite well in day to day life performance.
