LG G – series of devices have been the best in class from the day LG announced them. These devices were always placed against the top devices from other countries. In the recent few years LG has even released some other units with the same LG G – branding and hence there are quite a few confusions with them. This year LG released the LG G7 One, this device is a great unit and it comes with the Android One software which is rocking on most of the Android devices from Nokia and many new budget devices. This makes it easy for the consumers to adapt as it is the stock UI and on the other hand easy for the company to release the updates.
LG G7 One is the first Android One device from LG, and today we are going to review the phone, so that you can have a look at the device and see if the Android One project by LG is going to do any difference or not, or if it is going to be another failed device from LG.
Although it won’t be right to claim LG devices to be failed one, as LG is doing great in the market they are intending their devices into, the markets they are working for are having good amount of sales and the customers does like the units, let us have a look at the LG G7 One and see if this product has got enough to impress more of the people to get the product.
Design & Build
So at the first glance, the phone has got the same design as you would have seen on the LG G7 ThinQ do read our review of the same for more information about the device. Both the devices feel identical but there are a lot of differences in other regions which we will talk about later. The device looks quite stylish and at the same times happens to have all the right places ticked to make the device live long in the race. On the back, the phone has got a really great fit and feel with a single camera setup, a fingerprint unit, and a flash.
Talking about the build the device gets an all-metal build and hence there will be no issue with the device in regards to the build quality. The LG G7 One also gets a notch on the front and this makes the phone stand out in terms of the modern feel and finish. On the front it is a 6.1 – inch glass diagonally in the 19.5:9 ratio and hence this gives the device a tall boy design. Talking about the placements of the buttons and other port, they are same as the one you would find on the LG G7 ThinQ and hence for the detailed version do read the review of the LG G7 ThinQ.
Display
The display unit is a 6.1 – inch notched display which is a Quad HD+ display and hence you can enjoy the 4K content on the screen and that will make the screen of the phone look vibrant and at the same time make the things on the screen appear quite crisp and extra vibrant. The phone gets the best in the class display from LG and hence the colors and contrast levels are the best in class. The display unit is an IPS LCD unit and comes with HDR10 or Dolby Vision technology, this gives the phone the best in class dynamics.
Another great thing to note is about the Always on Display and the phone gets the same with which you can easily watch the notifications even when the phone is in off condition. The phone will easily be available with you to deliver you the information required. Talking about the real world condition tests, the phone is easily legible in the sunlight and hence it can get really bright at the same time in the night the phone is not capable to get really dark and hence at times in pitch dark your eyes might hurt. Overall the colors and vibrancy levels are great and hence those who love colors will surely fall in love with the mobile unit.
Performance
LG G7 One is offered with the Snapdragon 835 CPU which was the flagship unit of last year, this is a portion where the phone falls back majorly. None of the other device launched in 2018 was launched with Snapdragon 835, and LG is launching one, and this makes the company to lack in terms of innovation. Although the chipset is good and one of the best one still available in the market, it makes the phone lack in future development. Backing up the chip is 4Gigs of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.
In the real world, there are no issues to the device from the performance part, and the device is able to get the best performance that is even the other devices with Snapdragon 845 can get, that is due to the stock UI coming straight from Google. The phone is easily able to make calls, messages, and other social media tasks as they are small rice cakes for the processor to perform. On the heavier side, the phone is easily capable of gaming and other tasks. No matter what game you throw on the phone, it will easily go through the same. There are some games which lag a bit, but those are majorly the issues with optimization which will surely get fixed with updates.
Camera
In 2018 where most of the devices being launched come with a dual camera unit, LG have again made a cost-cutting and launched a device with a single camera unit. The device gets a 16MP Single unit at the back with a f/1.6 aperture which is, in turn, assisted with PDAF and Laser AF. On the front, we have a single 8MP unit and comes with an aperture of f/1.9.
Both the camera unit performs well when it comes to static pictures and hence for most of the part you are going to be happy and will praise the camera of the phone. But when it comes to the bokeh effects, the phone will struggle as there is only a single camera in action when opposed to multiple camera units of other phones.
Pictures produced by the phone comes with a lot of contrasts and also have a good amount of colors in the photos. On the same side, the photos do have a good amount of dynamic range. This makes the phone to feature a great package for camera loving people, and especially the one who still needs the typical power of a single camera lens mobile phone.
Battery
The phone comes loaded with 3000 mAh battery which is assisted via Quick Charge 3.0, another great feature on the phone is the WPC & PMA wireless charging available to the phone. The battery life on the phone is quite great and it can easily power the device for a full working day, but at the same time there is a downside that if the phone is used for works such as heavy gaming, and camera intensive tasks than the phone will have to be charged twice a day, charging speed on the phone is quite good especially when charged via the cable and the provided power brick which have to be Quick Charge 3.0 compatible. Wireless charging is slow and takes up a lot of time.
Verdict
LG G7 One is a great device and will get timely software updates directly from Google and this makes the device a really powerful unit with the same specs as you would have seen on the Pixel 2 XL.
