Oppo A5 Review

Oppo in 2018 has been getting quite aggressive with the launches of new devices, and on the other side the devices had a great price to performance ratio, and even it had some really great internals which made that device unique aesthetically and in the history of Oppo. Even this device the Oppo A5 comes with some of the amazing specs which are going to make the device run all the applications with ease, but Oppo is branding this device against the aesthetic market and you are going to have a look at a really premium looking phone for the next year till you get another phone.

With the diamond pattern at the back, and even the notched glass this phone happens to have all the best features to make the device rock in the market, let us now have a detailed look whether the phone will be able to influence more of the people to buy it, or it will be left with almost no user thinking of the device. Design & Build

Talking about the design it comes with a really great design on the back panel. Starting with the front of the device it comes with a notched display and happens to have a really tall display which has 19 on its taller side and 9 on its wider side of the screen. On the bottom, we have a visible bezel which is quite big and spoils the appearance of the device. On the back side of the phone, we have a Diamond finished back with Oppo written on it in the middle, on the top left we have the dual camera set up along with the LED flashlight.

Overall the phone is made with premium material choice, where we have metal on sides, and glass panel both on the front and the back, and hence you are not going to feel that you are holding a non-premium device, but for most of the part it will give you the feel of a top of the line device from Samsung or Apple. The build quality of the phone is also great with the best of protections available for the glasses both on the front and the back, if you are getting this device, then don’t forget to get a cover for the back panel, and a tempered glass for the front.

Display

The phone will do lag on the display point of view, we have an HD+ display and hence the display will have a really low pixel per inch ratio and hence you will surely be able to see the dots or pixels of the screen. Talking about the display size we have 6.1 – inch display which comes in the ratio of 19:9. As far as the quality of the display goes it is not able to produce the best of colors and contrasts and at times you will find the performance of the phone lacking in terms of colors.

As far as contrast goes when you are viewing the phone in normal home lights then the phone will perform extremely well, but when it comes to darker situations and bright situations, these are the regions when you will see the phone getting haywire in the contrast game. Coming to the display quality it is quite great, as you can easily view the screen even in the daytime without any need of sunglasses for the glares, but in direct sunlight it can be an issue, also coming to the late night usage you can use the phone, but it will surely hurt the eyes.

Performance

The phone comes with a Snapdragon 450 CPU which is not a great chip when it comes to performance or even any other task. It is one of the entry-level chip which will be supporting your device for daily performance tasks. Along with the chip it is supported by 64GB of Internal Storage and 4GB of RAM. The RAM and the Internal Storage will do make a change in the overall performance of the phone that is majorly due to the extra space that the phone gets to keep the preprocessed material for further usage.

If you are thinking the phone will make you play the latest games with ease, then it is not the case and you will have no luck in playing any games, although you can play those boring old board games on the phone. Any heavy gaming or heavy task will result in lags and stutters, the phone will even lag when stressed. Although multiple low power apps will be a joy due to the extra RAM that the phone gets, this means the phone is a really capable multitasker.

Camera

The Oppo A5 comes with 13MP and 2MP rear camera unit in accordance with each other. The primary camera which is a f/2.2 aperture one is a great unit, while the 2MP camera which is a secondary unit just available for depth sensing comes with f/2.4 aperture. Under the front glass, we have an 8MP unit with f/2.2 aperture. If you are looking for some good selfies and a great picture quality from the phone, then it will go in vain as the quality is not at par with the competition, although you will be extremely happy with the quality of the pictures at the start, but slowly you will get problems in the device due to the low-quality camera.

Both the from and rear camera unit will fail to capture the real crisp photos, with the real colors, the colors and the contrasts both have an issue with the phone and you will get photos which looks like overly high dynamic range pictures, or the colors will come washed out. Selfies in the daytime will be great and you will enjoy clicking pictures with your collogues, although do note that the rear camera is something that will really be an issue in the night, because even after the LED Flash the photos come either blurry or with a lot of grains, or underexposed. So be aware of the fact before taking the phone.

Battery

The device happens to rock a large 4200 mAh battery which is sufficient for a phone of this size. The chip employed in the phone is the best of the chip that is available to make the device run the whole day long, although with such a large battery it can easily churn out 1 & ½ a day when used with real ease of social media and calling. On the other hand, if you use a lot of camera and a lot of small games then the phone will result in a full day of battery life, although at times you might need to charge the phone at the night.

Verdict

Oppo A5 is a great unit especially for the people who need a phone with a great aesthetic look, there is not much to say about the performance and you will get the same old crampy performance that you will need from a device that is just made for looks.
