How to Create a Local User Account in Windows 10

Windows 10, like any other computer operating system, has the ability to provide multiple user accounts. You do not need to purchase a separate PC for everyone in your house. All you have to do is creating local user accounts that will create separate working environments for every user. One user will not be able to access the files of the other user unless they have permission to do so. Another user account will be also beneficial in situations like where you have to provide your friends temporary access to your PC and don’t want them to have any extra access than necessary.

So the usage cases of separate user accounts on Windows 10 is beyond your expectations. In this article, we are going to discuss the steps required to create a local user account on your Windows 10 PC.

To Create a Local User Account on Windows 10

1. Click on the Start button.
   
2. Click the Settings icon (gear icon). It will open the PC settings screen.
   
3. Click on the Accounts option.
   
4. On the left sidebar, navigate to the Family & other users tab.
5. Click on the Add someone else to this PC option on the right section.
   
6. It will ask you for the Microsoft account details of the person you want to add as the user. Click on I don’t have this person’s sign-in information link at the bottom.
   
7. On the next screen, click on the option Add a user without a Microsoft account. This will allow us to continue without a Microsoft account.
   
8. The next screen will ask you to enter the username and password for the new user. Provide the necessary details of the person you want to add to the computer and complete the wizard.

Once you successfully complete the wizard, the account for that person will be ready to be used. You can try logging out of your account and signing back in using the newly created user account. You should make sure that they do not have Administrative privileges’ unless you want them to have them.

If you accidentally create an admin user, they will be able to control all the aspects of your computer. So, the created user should be a Standard User for them to be able to enjoy all the Windows 10 features without having to the administrative settings or configuration.
