Google recently concluded its annual developer conference named as the Google I/O. From the last few years, Google has stepped up its announcements and it is fair to say that this year’s Google I/O was much better than WWDC same as last year. As part of the latest announcements by Google, the company announced new features for Google Maps as well. The announcements at Google I/O were mostly related to artificial intelligence and same is the case with Google Maps as well. However, Google Maps also gets some augmented reality integration as well.
Now, the announcement from Google has finally come true as the updates which were promised are now rolling out to the Android smartphones around the world. Talking about this AR feature, Google Maps will now have an AR street mode which shows real-world navigation. This means that whenever you are using the AR street mode, Google Maps will show you exactly when you need to turn, where you need to turn and show your destination as well. In addition to this, Google Maps will also help you in identifying nearby places so that it is easier for you to recognize your neighborhood.
Apart from the AR street mode, Google Maps is also getting a ‘For You’ section same as Google News. This section will give you personalized recommendations based on your interests and past travels. Also, the most interesting feature announced at Google I/O for Google Maps is also rolling out. This is the latest social feature integrated directly into Google Maps. With this feature, you will now be able to let multiple users vote for any particular topic which may include where to go for dinner or which movie to watch tonight. On the other hand, Google has not revealed any timeline of when this update will come for iOS devices around the world.
