The Indian government has announced that it is ready to test 5G technology in India. However, there are parties such as Rashtriya SwayamSevak Sangh(RSS) and others who are hinting to block Huawei from its 5G trials. These organizations are saying that they are not so sure about “relying on Huawei.”. Now, RSS is believed to be the parent organization of the ruling party Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) in India. This means that BJP might also look to block Huawei from India’s 5G trials.
While nothing has come out from the Indian government against Huawei, the Chinese government has already warned them against taking any action. China says that it is ready to fight if Huawei is blocked from India. China has also threatened that if India bans Huawei, it will also take serious action against Indian companies working in China.
China’s foreign minister gave a statement to Reuters saying that:
Huawei has carried out operations in India for a long time, and has made contributions to the development of Indian society and the economy that is clear to all. On the issue of Chinese enterprises participating in the construction of India’s 5G, we hope the Indian side makes an independent and objective decision, and provides a fair, just and non-discriminatory commercial environment for Chinese enterprises’ investment and operations, to realize mutual benefit.
Now, we know that Huawei has been instrumental in the growth of the smartphone market in India. The company has not made significant in-roads in the Indian market yet similar to Xiaomi or BBK Electronics but it is still in the Top 5 companies in India. Therefore, the ban on Huawei in the Indian market similar to the US will cost Huawei badly and the Chinese government is strictly against it.
However, Huawei is also blamed for being operated by the Chinese government and being owned by the Chinese military which is why it was banned from the US.
