Google agrees to acquire Fitbit for $2.1 Billion in Cash

Fitbit acquired by Google

Google has just dropped a major announcement on a Friday morning in the US. The announcement is that both Google and Fitbit have reached a deal in which Fitbit will now be a part of Google. Yes, the biggest search giant Google will now make Fitbit products and sell them. However, we don’t know at the moment if Fitbit’s brand will remain as it is now or their products will be sold under the Google brand name. But what we can say is that Google has made one of the best moves in the tech industry with the acquisition of Fitbit.

Because one of the reasons is that Fitbit is a successful brand and they already have great products in their lineup. Therefore, it would be great if Google can develop and market them even better which would be advantageous for both the companies. Also, Google says that “This agreement underscores our belief in how important wearable tech has become, and it’s also an exciting opportunity for Wear OS,”. Here is where the problem for Google lies when it comes to Wear OS. We know that Wear OS is not anywhere close to Apple’s Watch OS and Google is trying hard to make it at the same level as Android. But they are not managing to do so since many years of trying now.

Therefore, we believe that it is best for Google to work on Fitbit’s software and develop it further. Because we think that Wear OS is a failed product and Google needs to let it go now. Otherwise, we will see what happened to Motorola’s acquisition by Google happening to Fitbit as well. We do hope, however, that it is not the case and Google’s Fitbit acquisition turns out to be a major success. The acquisition of Fitbit has been agreed by Google and the deal is expected to close in 2020.
