You might know that there has been a lot of traction when it comes to Android TVs and the fact that many companies are launching Android sticks and dongles also tells you something about the same. It looks like Google is pushing Android device manufacturers to launch their Android TV dongles in order to make a wider lot adapt to Android TVs. Because it is easier to upgrade a TV to Android TV and make it smart rather than buying a new one. Xiaomi has launched their Android TV dongle as well as stick in India recently and now we are hearing the same about Google.
There were reports about a mystery device from Google codenamed ‘Sabrina’ and it was later confirmed to be an Android TV dongle. Now, we have more details regarding that device and the fact that it has passed FCC also tells us how close it is to be launched. It looks like Google will launch these devices at the October Pixel launch event where the Pixel 5 and the Pixel 4a 5G are expected.
As we have seen with other Android TV dongles, not only the device but there will also be a remote and “Sabrina” will also have a remote. From the FCC description, Google says GZRNL as an “Interactive Media Streaming Device,”. It is said that the upcoming Android TV dongle could be a successor to the Chromecast Ultra which suggests that it might get the Chromecast branding.
Maybe, it could be called the Google Cast or even get a Nest branding. This could also mean the end of Chromecast devices which required a phone to cast media to the TV which can now be done directly via this box. There was also a leak earlier which shared the design of Google TV remote and what buttons it might have.
